I'm not the originator of this request, but as soon as I read it I thought that perhaps it'd be of some interest to folks here. Mark Overmars, the creator of GameMaker, a popular game making program is looking for someone to create a library of royalty free icons and such for his next version of the application.  It looks like it's a paying gig, so I immediately thought perhaps someone here might be interested:

bunch of bull overthere... the fact that he wont let ANY persons under the age of 18 apply is crappamundo.  Like many posters in that topic have stated, the status of copyright laws allow a minor, along with their legal guardian, to dually sign the contract to transfer rights of the artwork.  I dont care much for whats going on over at Game Maker, personally I'll stick with Flash/Object Oriented Programming.

PS: ThePixelAgency will be the best and easiest place to get paying jobs.

Actually, due to nationally specific age of responsibility and labor laws, it's not.  The short reply to the people who suggest co-signing with a guardian is that they're wrong.  The long reply is that they're right in principle (assuming the nation in question even honors said contract), but there are so many ways around/through it (the most glaring loophole being a question of the guardian's right to the minor's intellectual property) that for the protection of both parties it's simpler to impose an age limit.  Depending on where the contractor and client are based, the age minimum could be as high as 21, or maybe more, although I can't think of any countries off the top of my head where that would be the case.

Forgive me if I sound a bit brash but these are the little nuances of the freelance universe you should probably familiarize yourself with before you go about creating a website based around the contract pixel market :P

Since some of GM's most hardcore users and fans are minors I'm sure it's as big a disappointment to Mark as it is to those who would like to contribute but can't due to age restrictions... but that's just business.

Well, I am merely the webdesigner/maintainer for the site, my pal xtremetom is pretty much the owner of it.  Though, I will most-likely look deep into the legallities of certain contracts of this sort.

I'm already taking a shot at the request since I'm a huge fan of the software and its what my group use to make games.  I'm 25 and I ain't too shabby with pixels so am hoping I get the gig.  Need me the money anyways.

Ah, I see :P It's still good to know if you plan on being any kind of freelance designer, if only to avoid being screwed. I wish I could point you in the direction of some resources for those legalities, but I don't know of any :\ I kinda picked up what I know about it by osmosis, and I'm sure as hell not an authority on it :P if you find any reliable information it'd be cool to put it up on that site of yours.

Ya, xtremetom has already been diving into legallity documentations for both International and Stately laws of copyright.  I asked him to send copies of all said documents to me so I could add it into the site pronto.  It will be in the resources section.. when I get to that section lol.

This might turn into a flame fest because Many spriters myself included love Game Maker. I don't really like the idea of making a bazillion action buttons though...i use pure script.
