well i'm making a totem about my friends favourite animals.. including mine..

the grey lines you see there are the liens that i'm following for the texture from the wood..

It's hard to tell if they're good colours w/o it being shaded. I'd go ahead and shade it. You can always change the colours later. ------------- |

Thats looking pretty good. The right ear of the elephant is off by 4 pixels.

 i'm trying to work on the woodish texture... help me with it plz..
amm i started shading the "cow" and teh "penguin" (the 2 from the bottom) how does it looks?? before i keep shading it

While I like the wood texture being exxagerated and cartoony. If you keep such consistent vertical lines it will end up being distracting. I would try to curve them with the shapes a little bit before going into the colors ... nvm, just read and noticed the cow and penguin...looks great *hides in shame ------------- |

I would find a reference image (google) on the Canadian type of totems and notice that the colors are wooden colors too as opposed to opaque paints that just cover the wood...hope that makes sense. Just keep an eye out when coloring. Maybe a sunset BG that backlights the pole might elevate the scene...just throwing an idea ;)

Looking better, but it's a little hard to tell which animals are which. Maybe adding some highlights on their faces so we can tell? ------------- |

I think it's looking too dark, especially with a white BG. Try adjusting the colors used in the middle of the totem pole to something lighter. Also make the BG transparent or a neutral color so it isn't making it quite so difficult to see details in the dark totem pole. ------------- http://pixelmonkey.ensellitis.com">

amm it'll have a background that's why it's white =S but tell me how i can make a neutral background color and i will .

Howdy. There's alot of grainy/noisy pixels in here which make the form hard to read. I did an edit to give you an idea;  The most important thing is that your form is actually readable. |

I thought you were going to add some paint? I would now seeing this update suggest you color areas to help see the different animals (not brights, use woody colors, dammit). Say yellow for the penguin beak, ivory tusks, pink cat ear, beedy red eyes on wolf, pink ears on cow (color save >ftw) greyish/blue for the seal/walrus and pick a shade for whatever that other one is. Then maybe add a sunset sky BG, nothing fancy, perhaps some sil teepees far off the distance and then some smoke signal/fire which you research so that it says something smart and clever (PA easter egg)...or some other idea :/ ------------- |

eye craft maybe in another version of the totem i'll try that coz this is more cartoony and less realistic =/ thnx for the tip =D

Oh, it was trouble :p So this is very rough and way loads of colors but thats not important here. I just wanted to show how (one of many possibilities) to take your totem and get a story out of it that retains the viewers interest and enhances the focal point. ------------- |

Nice. I suggest you follow all the rock outlines and smooth as much as possible without using AA. To keep lines as clean as possible use 'steps', i.e., don't do 2 pixels followed by 4, followed by 1 then 2. Use 6pixels followed by 4, then 3 then 2 then 1 and back up (stepping).
