Team name: Kevin Smeltzer

Project name: Enlightenment (working title)

Brief description:

Enlightenment is a massive multiplayer online casual game where players take a character from a life of misery to a life of love and enlightenment. Play revolves around gathering personal power and taking action using that power. Co-operation between players is encouraged.

I have been working on this idea for roughly two months, and I estimate the code is somewhere around 30-40% completes.

I am looking to have this project finished within 12 months so that I can start ASAP on product delivery and marketing.

Target aim:

This game will be an online game, either an Applet that runs directly in a browser or a Java Webstart application ( I have both versions but have not yet decided on the final product. )

The game will initially be free to play, with hopes of incorporating pay accounts and/or upgrades for paying players.

Compensation:

I am looking for someone who loves to create. If you love to create artwork and do it for fun then great, because I can not offer any money upfront. This is a venture with possibilities of earning revenue, and if so, you would be entitled to your share. Anyone who is looking strictly for a "paid gig" would be better off searching elsewhere.

Technology:

This game is planned to run on any system that can run a Java applet or application. Both the client and server code is written in Java using my own custom code.

I won't tell you how to do what you do, and so you are free to use any tools to create artwork for the game.  Keep in mind, of course, that this is a 2D sprite based game and not 3D whatsoever. (3D rendered images may be acceptable.)

Talent needed:

Preferably one talented artist who wants to have fun! This artist will be responsible for creating 2D artwork and images for: Map tiles (only ONE type of animated tile in various colours and intensities), a custom GUI interface including menu windows and buttons, animated 2D artwork of cartoon like humans, other various 2D artwork consisting of objects related to spirituality.

Team structure:

Currently the team consists of me. I am all that is required for coding, and sound (although currently there is none!) I may also be doing the design and implementation of a website, although I am in the process of finding someone else to take care of that for me.

Hopefully one artist should be enough to complete a project of this scope.

Website:

Everything is stored on my computer and in my e-mail accounts. I will send information to anyone who is interested. The website is just starting development.

Additional Info:

The game world works in "real time" that is, the user selects an action, and then some time later (typically a number of HOURS later) the action is completed and the player can do their next task.

The tasks are divided up into categories: Gathering personal power, Using personal power to break or create agreements, Upgrading energy tiles, or "Purchasing upgrades."

The game will also have a certain level of "fun interactivity." For example, agreements will be shown as big colourful blobs inside of a "brain." In order to break an agreement the player clicks on the blob they want to work on. Then the player has the OPTION to play a "minigame" to add a bonus/penalty to their action.

The player's character will be represented in different forms, one of which is an outward view of a large cartoon character which will show visual signs as to their "state." (in the form of short funny animations). As the player's character progress through the game, the outward appearance and actions  of their character will change at certain "BREAKTHROUGH" levels.

For example, one character is tentatively titled "Mr. Vice" Here is a small snippet from the design document:

Mr. Vice – A cigarette smoking, alcohol abusing, gambling character.

Breakthrough # 1 – Throws away cigarette

Breakthrough # 2 – Appearance is cleaned up

Breakthrough # 3 – Throws away beer bottle

Breakthrough # 4 – Face gets happier

Breakthrough # 5 – Throws away his dice / gambling gear

Breakthrough # 6 – Face gets even happier

Breakthrough # 7 – Body and face get happier

Breakthrough # 8 – Clothes change to guru (like Jesus) clothing

Breakthrough # 9 – Halo appears above head

Breakthrough # 10 – Turns into human glowing with energy!
