CHALLENGE: Rainy Day

From challenge winner jamon comes this week's challenge. A rainy day scene. May be any time of day. Realistic or fantasy.

Rules:
Canvas Size: 240 x 140 vertical or horizontal
Transparency: No
Animation: Allowed
Color Palette: 32 color max

CHALLENGE RULES

Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp'>submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
Only new pixels allowed.
Open to all members.
Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8'>WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
No matter what happens you get challenged :)

I have 30 colours for my peice at the moment *excluding transparancy, because i'm not going to use transparancy* i need 3 or more colours for my rain. Rain is very difficult to get colours for.

I'm going to do another one of my http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/20180.htm - square - http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/20006.htm - experiments for this challenge. It's going to be in http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/21958.htm - this style but with more colors and more depth.

But instead of blue it's going to be brown. Can anyone say "Chocolate Rain"?

Looks like a top down view of the pool but a side view of the character. I'd pick one or the other.

Don't use NPA text, especially with that ugly-as-heck automatic subpixel antialiasing. That sort of thing is all well and good for screen fonts but it looks terrible anywhere near PA.

we'll it still looks horrible, mostly the wood....if someone could give me a suggestion or a pattern i could use that would be great, unless thats against the rules.

Usually wooden decks aren't cut into smaller pieces like that. They would run across a large span of the deck. And each piece wouldn't be a different color of wood. http://www.arthurspools.com/pools/wpe5B.jpg - Check out this picture to see what I'm getting at.

I see you gone with a top-down view by removing the person. Now you have to fix the perspective of the pool to match that. (i.e. You probably wouldn't see the inner edge of the pool at all in a direct top down view.)

thanks for the wood tips...so all light and dark long wood pieces across the deck...alright. we'll im not putting my person back in cuz it looks bad anyways so im not gona change the pool.

also the stairs if they're going down.. would go darker at the bottom..., if they're going up.. going lighter..

thanks a bunch for the example you gave me, first i made my lines way to thick then narrowed then down and thought the black lines would be a problem, but not really. Now just for some simple rain

@collected - I think this is really great as is - it looks like a pencil drawing. But I would just LOVE to see it in color. *prod*prod*

@volcon - That looks so much better and cleaner, don't you think? Also take kfuchoin's crit into consideration, i think it's a good one. Another thing you may want to consider, the base of the house appears to be flat against the ground, like it's flooring. The perspective on this would be from a top view, http://www.notesfromhollywood.com/images/AtTheShangri-LaHotelBangkok033.JPG - like this; if that is the perspective you intend. Good progress though.

Now it just needs some details so it doesn't look like a big block of wood. If you use the stairs, you could add railing on both sides. The rain will be a challenge here. Make sure it splashes in the pool.

Update:

Top part done.

Still needs:

-bottom half of branch (currently red/blue)

-raindrop (light grey area)

-background rain

-animation

Even with a photograph for example and colours, this is taking forever to make. Over 15 hrs so far.

i know it looks bad and if you look closely you can see small spalshes in the pool which i obviously have the fix. The rain looks horrible, every color i try looks bad and i don't know how to place it...any tips?

dude try to make your own.,. =/ ig ave you an example.. edits are for you to get an idea.. and try to make something similar
-don't make the wood too dark..
-the black diether is for adding an extra shade without using another color), just use it as if it was another color...
-You could add a darer shade to the border of the pool
-well i had experience at design before and started with small things (started at 14.. and i'm actually 14), so i have to say no i didn't suck.. you can look at my DA.. my work was aceptable..

@ Collected, you should remove 3 colors since a max of 32 colors is allowed. Its quite a lovely pic.

Well, I think I fixed it now, but is there a way to check how many colours I used? Maybe a program?
