I see so many really awesome things in the PJ gallery and I was wondering.. where do you guys get the ideas you crank out? I mean, I get my inspiration from music generally but some things you guys make are just... I would never have come up with it. I was just wondering... where do you get it? And how do you get it from your head to the screen?

Inspiration can come from anywhere... a comic strip, a book, an article, movie, etc.  It's just a matter of harnassing that inspiration and producing something decent.

I usually have a jumbled picture of how I want something.  Having a clear vision is very rare for me and it's always a great pleasure when it clicks... it just doesn't "click" very often.  Most of the work I've pushed out I am not very happy with which can be frustrating, but you just have to keep at it.

I've tried to work on my technique and skills so when I do have a clear vision I can make it happen.  Reworking your old pieces is something I would highly recommend if you need an ego boost.

I get that a lot.  In fact theres a ton of stuff I've done that I don't consider worthy of posting.  Some of it kinda hangs in limbo waiting for me to redo it or something.

Exactly what I did last night.  Might rework some more stuff.

hmm. :P That's interesting. Lately I guess I've been feeling... uninspired. I mean, I'd like to make something a little more.. random and out of the blue. Something I'm not used to doing at all. Un-music related XD  I guess I'll have to just keep thinking then :P Sometimes a great idea smacks me on the face randomly so.. maybe one's coming soon!

Pixel a skipping cow-whale creature

Inspiration always comes when you are too busy with other stuff.
...and leaves once you have free time.

Try random word pickers and pixel the results you get in them, you can either picture it in your head first or keep editing as it comes :O

Get outta my head.  This is exactly my problem.  The only time I feel inspired is when I don't have two seconds to work.

Wolverine: I saw that one wolf pic in the gallery that you reworked... I don't know what you reworked on it, but the final results show your usual polish.

True... I always get the best ideas when I'm at school, and at home... practically none.

Yeah I take my sketch book everywhere now so I can get stuff down if it comes. I also try do at least an A4 page a day (of sketches) and lots of the time I'll pixel the best sketch on a page or something.

Akira: that is a great idea, and I've figured it really works.
I haven't had much time to do this, lately, but 'tis The Way.

Apart from that, inspiration can really come from anywhere.
I've found that if I don't break my daily routine I can never do anything.
This site is somewhat interesting, though not a recipe: http://www.lab404.com/surfing/ - http://www.lab404.com/surfing/

And last but not least, I get my inspiration right here at the joint, LOL

My inspiration just hits me all of the sudden.  That is why I carry around a little notebook in my pocket, whenever I get an idea, I write it down...  And of course, when I start working on something, more and more hit me, no wonder I hardly ever finish an idea...  One day I need to sit down and just work on unfinished projects...

Once, when I couldn't sleep, I stared into the darkness and saw a log of firewood with a tophat on. That's my next project, when I find time. And I make it 'cause I want to actually get good at this.

I get inspiration from everyday happenings, I keep an eye open all day long and when I get back home and sit down by my computer I review in my head what's happened and look for something to pixel out of it.

I once started a "pixel diary" where I forced myself to pixel one picture each day about what had happened that day (they always ended up tiny and simple, one day I pixelled a pancake with jam and cream at 16x16). Might be a good push to get the brains working, I don't know.

I would also suggest a random word machine. Never tried it myself, but I am pretty sure it works great.

Here are some I just found through google:

http://www.feath.com/idea/idea.htm - http://www.feath.com/idea/idea.htm (for writing really, but can still be used)

Now have fun

A little bit ago, I felt uninspired, just like you. So I looked around the PJ gallery and then it hit me: make a pixel version of my head and shoulders (is it called a profile? I'm not sure.) So I did. And it looks stupid, but the point of this post is: look for inspiration anywhere, but look first where you hold dear.

Well concerning inspiration, I just had what you can call "author's block" for nearly 2 year...haven't produced anything, created even less. It feels so good to start to have inspiration and motivation back!
