Since a long time I returned to PixelJoint and was browsing around until I stumbled on the "Suggest a collab" topic.
There I saw this great idea of making some kind of "Blue ball" machine (Everyone knows that animation, I think), but nobody ever started this collab. So here I am, starting it up.
Rules:
- Tile size: 50 x 50 pixels
- Frameset: 10 frames
- Framerate: 0.1 seconds
- You must have fun making it!
Freedoms:
- You can make whatever you want, as long as it fits the neighbouring tiles.
- We start with a green ball, but who knows what may happen to it. It might change color or even shape.
Also keep in mind that the ball doesn't have to leave the tile after 10 frames. As long as it fits the framecount + framerate you deside when the ball leaves.
For example: the ball leaves the tile at the 20th frame.
Starting tile:
PS. Did I forget things, or does someone has some things to add to the rules? Just mention them and I'll add them to the starting post.

The tiles need to fit with the non touching side of the other tile too????
A example: If someone make a tile in the front of your tile, he just need to fit to your tile the side that is touching your tile or the other side of the tile too???
I am asking this because in the blue ball picture you can put a picture 2 times the same blue ball picture on in the front of the other and they will fit.

The tile only needs to fit the tile it's touching. So if you take my title and want to make one below that one, only the top or your tile needs to fit the bottom of my tile. Hope this explains it well enough, or else I have to draw images for explanation

Is this collab to hard? Because, no-one added a tile... which indeed makes me a bit sad..

Something quickly before i go to college, to get things started for you guys. Don't be afraid to change other people's tiles i say, especially if it helps piece the whole thing together. Could become a big mess if we don't.

Added another tile there. I like what you did with the ball Larwick. Hope this collab will become huge.

Kick and add-on.
Why did this topic die?

Because people weren't as interested as you'd hoped they'd be. Seriously have a look at the topic - you've done 2/3 of the pieces...are you just going to keep reviving it all the time and adding pieces...if so why not cut out the other 2 pieces; call it your own work and submit it to the gallery.
and since you appear to be fond of sayings: "Let sleeping dogs lie."

Guess you're right, however the reactions to this were enthusiastic (It was talked over in the add a collaboration topic too, but no-one ever made one).
Too bad, but I'll have to bury this thread indeed.

Frankly, I think this would be COOL!!!! But I can't do animation. :( And the tiles are uneven. What I think you should do is restart the thread, but make it like a checkerboard. Everybody fills in a tile, without animation, but maybe with a red dotted line to show which path the ball takes. In the end, someone could animate it, and it would be AWESOME!!!!

Yes, or you can make a new thread about it. Remember, read all the older posts and figure out no-one is waiting for this kind of thing anymore.

I think it would be a better idea for those who can't do animation to post an image, like you say, with red dotted lines, so someone who can animate can animate it. Rather than making the whole thing static at the start, because we won't understand the speed of the ball and it would be hard to calculate.
I don't understand what you mean by the tiles being uneven.
MisterQwerty, i'm going to lock your thread because i don't see any need for a new one. Post your tiles here and i'm sure someone will be happy to animate them, but make sure they link to the current tiles and the image is not a JPG.
Later on i would be happy to add a faint checker pattern behind the current tiles incase it's hard to determine where one begins and ends.
Also i know before i said it's ok to edit other people's tiles, i don't think that's a good idea anymore, seems silly that i suggested it. We can simply ask someone to fix something if it's required.

Okay, but what I meant about the tiles was that one might be 50x50, and the next 45x54.

Yeah ok. Well so far it's all been ok, everyone has posted 50x50 tiles (which is easy to do because it's a simple number). But as i said we can always add a grid. :)
Your image is still a jpg and is ruined by jpg artifacts! Hopefully you have a backup copy!

Okay I have a question here. What happens when this becomes a huge 1000x1000 piece, imagine how slow its going to be to load on 10 frames of that every second on some peoples computers. There needs to be another way of doing this.
How about we just submit our single 50x50 animations, tell you where we want them, and then you paste individual images next to each other on the first post on this topic. It will load quicker and take up less memory on peoples computers.
Unless someone has another idea to make this smoother, because I don't feel like uploading a whole entire 1000x1000 10 frame animation or working on one that big once it starts to grow, I don't think anyone else does either.
Aside from that, this is a very very good idea. I think it could be really cool, especially if people started thinking outside the box and using more colors.

Good idea FlyGuy, if might even work that way. I just don't have the time right now to "slice" all the existing parts right now.

It's a shame that there isn't really anything that sets this apart from the original. We're pixel artists, right? Why not make it good looking as well?

I dunno, thought I'd try something outside of the average machine world. It turned out horrible, but thats what you get for only spending a couple minutes on it I guess.
Edit: Basically what is happening here is the pin is pushing the ball making it have that jump frame it already had...as the pin pushes up it sucks the eyeball out of the head making the guy gag.

Hey maybe someone can make an enima shooting up the guys rear or something, that way he isn't throwing up infinitely with nothing entering his body to supply the endless puke.

I like the add-on. It made me laugh
I also agree with Blue, that's why everyone should be given the option to polish other people tiles.
