Haven't tried it out yet, but tomorrow's payday so I'll be shelling out for it this weekend--Power Game Factory. I think it's limited to 2d platformers, but that's more options than existed for us Mac ppl previously. $44, available now from www.sawbladesoftware.com. I'll try to post a little review after I've tried it. It compiles into self-contained applications, and there are no licensing fees for distributing your game. It's a baby step, but at least it's in the right direction. XD

Even if it's only one genre of games you can certainly go wild with it -- side scrollers are usually games that you can pick right up and play without learning any controls. Simple addictive fun.

I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the software.  That'd make a good article for the pixel art magazine if you are interested in contributing.

Sounds like an interesting program. If I were a Mac user I'd definately give it a try

If you're still looking for other game creation programs for Mac, take a look here: http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html - http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html
Also lists programs for other OSes (plural of OS?), but after each program it says which OS it is for, so you can just search for everything with MAC and check that out

Yeah blu, i've checked them all out, the existing stuff for macs just blows. Coldstone got me excited briefly, but it was so bad that even ambrosia quit supporting it. dim3 is super overkill for 2d, there's some other stuff out there you can find through sites like idevgames, but it really doesn't cater to a non-programmer, 2d wannabe like myself. I always lusted after something like gm for the mac, but after searching pretty hard, just came up emptyhanded. I hope this new app is my answer, but I have a bad feeling it will only compile for OSX...

EDIT: It does only compile for OSX. Oh well. I'm playing around with it anyway, and I like it a lot so far, it's very much constrained to sidescrollers/platformers but has an incredibly friendly interface for the non-programmer. Also, great documentation and a helpful, responsive forum for those who are intimidated by learning new programs (like me).
