I posted this in the gallery and it was suggested I shade it. I don't normally shade my work, but thought I'd give it a go. Comments and crits welcome:

Thanks to FrostPumpkin for a bit of inspiration (see link in Frost's gallery comment, couldn't get link to work here).

I think it has more clarity and crispness without the shading.

you just have too many pixels going on there.  on a larger piece the aa and dither would work beautifully, but on something small, you should be a bit cleaner to keep up the clarity and crispness

just a quickie.  I think this palette needs more contrast.  I'd made the highlight brighter, but it's still not quite enough

I had a minute to play with the colors more:

my edit on the left..

hope i helped a tad.

Lawrence: Thanks, I like my original as well, and stand by it. My other hobby is 3D modeling and rendering. I like pixeling because it doesn't have to be photoreal and perfectly shaded. I like to keep it as simple as possible, but still convey my original idea. However, the shading has been a fun little project.

Leel: Wow! I'm glad people like my work enough to spend some of their own time on it. I'm diggin' the jowels. Nice job!

Here's an update with a little more contrast:

Let's see if I can get FrostPumpkin's shading here as well:  (it worked!)

That last one works very well, the perfect blend between the two initial styles.
