This probably doesn't belong here- i've posted in the rules but no-one reads those anymore- but it's a rather fundamental part of WIP. How much of a WIP's improvement can be through other's edits? Are you meant to just 'take it on board', or can you edit the edits to make it more your own?

You should study edits given and see how others approach the problems with a given piece, then apply the suggestions yourself.  They act as a visual reference, and I don't suggest using someone else's work, even if it was done upon your original.

The true purpose of an edit is to show you how a piece can be improved by way of example. The original artist should study the edit to determine what was improved, and understand why it was done so that they themselves (ipse?) can emulate it/take it into account.

Err. in other words, it'd be better for your own growth to not just build upon their edit, but rather to rebuild their edit.

Or something.

sometimes people can express themselves better by doing a quick edit. you know, one image worths more than one thousand words.
