I thought I'd have a go at the DA Christmas challenge.
This would be the first little piece of my image. It'll eventually be a wintery scene. But, as Santas are important ( :P ), he's the first one to be presented.
He's not completely done yet (I'd like to murder that sack of his), so any CC would be truly welcome.

add more contrast onto the sack
make his nose slightly smaller and less pointy move his back leg a bit further back
other than that its quite nice

His bag is too round, think of the different shapes of things within it, mostly boxes with toys, try and make some points sticking out due to the shapes.
Also, I find that theguy is right, his nose is a bit too pointy for the classic Santa, more rounded, like his nice belly!
Another thing to think about is his arm, try and take a sheet/blanket, put a few things in it, then pull it around a bit, see how you would put your arm, against your body most likely, and the "bag" over your shoulder, rather then your arm way back.
Edit-
Fixed a typo XD
Also I forgot to say that I like the shading, and the idea you have going here, can't wait to see the fin product!

Your Santa has my nose! Leave it, he's beautiful. The shading is nice. His right foot (the one sticking out in front) looks askew. I think it needs one more row of thickness on the front side, and the heel hangs down too much. Other than that, I like it. About the bag: Isn't the bag magical? Are there actually contents in it that would be visibly bulging on the outside, or do they just appear when goes to pull something out? Not that I still believe in this stuff, mind you...(cough)...

Thank you everyone!
How about this one?
I didn't alter the nose as I originally intended it to be exaggerated but if you still feel it should be shorter, please let me know. Also, can you tell what the two little elfs are doing? (can you make them out, more importantly) And what do you think of the sack now?
Any other CC is also extremely welcome. Thank you all so far!

In my opinion keep the nose. The problem for me is Santa's beard, it looks partially shaved off. Maybe adding some more hair to it should do the trick. :)
Should also help the pointy nose issue.

The blue coloured elf looks like his hat is part of the sack, if that in fact is his hat. The little guy also looks like he is devouring the bag instead of grabbing it. Lengthing his arms should correct the problem. Keep up the good work.

Well, actually he is. He is holding onto the bag with his teeth. At least that was the idea.
I will see what I can do about the rest, though :)
Thank you!
Edit:
Here's another update. It's still not complete but I've got a lot more done than in the previous update.
(The tree's meant to be small. It's not too old)

Another update - what do you guys think?

The building, especially the roof, looks very flat. The roof doesn't seem to have any conical shading at all...?

Wow, this is really looking great. I like the new bag and the two little elfs along for the ride. The one "holding on with his teeth" looks a tad weird, though. How about just one hand with the other flailing behind? And I agree, the piece could use some more contrast between the light and shadow on the building and tree. Other than that, I like it.

Thank you!
How about now? I tried to give the building and the tree some more depth.

Muuch better, although I think you could push that shading on the building a bit more, especially on the lower section. You might also want to add some cast shadow from the roof to the stone part to add depth.
I think that now it's mostly a design problem. The snow and background blend in too much with santa, although he should pop out from the rest. I'd go for brighter highlights on santa's suit and make the snow fade away to darker and less saturated around the back (more saturation on santa?).
Buloght is really good at 'fading backgrounds' to attract more attention to the subject of the piece: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/25321.htm - one , http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/17131.htm - two and http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/12900.htm - three are some good examples!

marilii this piece is comming along very nicely. Keep it up. The only critique I have that has not been pointed out as of yet is the tiny (C)w in the background near the hut. Looks odd.

He is? Hmm, well if its the teeth then you should make those pearly whites more visible.
For example:
Not the perfect approach, but you get the idea. :)

Gahh!
That little guy gave me a *lot* of trouble and I'm still not sure whether I like him :/ Any tips would be nice.

The little guys neck is partially dismembered. In fact the whole body seems off. Lengthen his torso, legs and fix his visible (left) arm. That will correct the anatomy issue.
About the teeth; your colour choice for his mouth ended up backfiring. Instead of seeing bright whites you got a bearded elf (?). Try using dark/lighter grey's for the enamel.
If its really bothering you I suggest altering his pose to something easier.

rather than a bearded elf I saw a clown :/
ok, I just made changed some pixels here and there on the boy's mouth(now he is really bitting the bag) and deleted his boobs(and therefore fixed the dismembered neck problem mentioned by solid pixel. also, added a second leg that tries to follow the trail
Just wondering, if the trail in the snow was made by santa's bag, how did he managed to pass below the tree without even screwing it a bit? and how can santa walk on the snow without leaving any footprints behind?

Those clouds look really odd. They're sharp and stuff. They should look like more cloudy I guess.

actually he is right about the clouds being weird. you have should shade the clouds u have as the sky and the sky as the clouds.

Uhh..Thanks everybody! :D
Changed the two little elves, the tree (tried to make it look like something had brushed against it), footprints and the sky. Hope it looks okay now. What do you think? Ready for the gallery or needs some more work?

It looks very nice. But it looks like Santa has a parachute.
