hi guys. I am contributing because:
1- i also need to improve.
2- i want to spread th knowlege of pixel art to more and more people. I want to keep this art alive.
3- Have nothing to do all day but wait until a computer needs fixing ( i work as an IT guy) so i thought helping people improve would make time fly.

Nice idea, I like it. This way you can share wisdom with eachother in a closer way.
Maybe a nice adding to the club fun thing: - How about each week (or so) you pick a piece from someone that needs c&c. But instead of giving c&c you all make your own intepretation of how you should finish that piece (if he/she gives approve of that). So at the end you get like 6 different pieces which all started the same (an un-finished piece).
P.S. the group should pick the piece and ask the owner if they can finish it. Don't send your "unfinished pieces" in so they can finish it.
Good idea? Bad idea? Flame me if it s*cks :p

hey mutts, i discussed with dogmeat the following.
We will create, ( later on ) a thread for posting all your ( and other PJ members ) pixel how to's. This thread is about how artists go about pixelling their images while explaining the decisions they made through out that time.
Also in this thread we will have a featured artist every week where he/she writes their own how to. We are working on a format ( everyone is welcome to submit ideas) for these how to's so the thread wont start yet.

Dogmeat do you need badges? I can make some. And I'll make a guide I have a great idea for a banner too.
Something like that pic as a silhouette. Basically we'll have the dogs following each other.
Dog 1-----Dog 2------Dog 3 and so on, and they'll be running to the left and they'll have like a string holding baloons or something saying the Dog Pound.

Originally posted by dogmeatOoh I like your idea of having a strict template for the guest to use. To elaborate on spartans idea:
1. We will find a guest host ( think of a tv show ) to invite for the week to write the tutorial.
2. Once the guest host has accepted the offer ( lets use fool for this example ) we will send Fool the template ( sheet with 6 64x64 boxes ).
3. The guest will use the template to pixel some scene using their pixel style starting from the first box to the last documenting what they did in between in text.
4. Once done Fool would send the sheet back to us ( by posting it within this thread ) and we will discuss the sheet asking questions if needed.
5. Once we feel we have a solid tutorial that can be presented to the rest of the forum we'll throw the tutorial in the sticky PJ user tutorials thread which will be created to display these.
I think the question/answer phase is important so we can ask things like "what did you do prior to creating the lines", "how come you used this color, we don't understand, so others may not, if we get more information then everyone will understand"
We want to look these things over as if we were detectives, thinking not only of all angles, but outside of the box as well.
Great job so far Spartan, also, I've updated the first post in this thread to better outline what we're about. wow this is like exactly the idea I had in mind for pixel-pax (well not exactly, but the general idea of a weekly tutorial every week by some1 else..).. does this mean this is a good idea because others tought of it too, and so I have to use this, or does it mean it sounds stolen now and I have to think of other original thinkgs

How about we have a ranking system with the points? I've made all the rank images already then.
•0-29 points=Red Collar
•30-59 points=Blue Collar
•60-119 points=Green Collar
•120-199 points=Black Collar
•200-59=Red Spiked Collar
and so on like that?

Good idea, as long as we get permission from whomever it is. The problem with that is that it may actually hinder progress for the artist so some kind of disclaimer along with the request to the artist should be sufficient.
With this, we may even want to include that user as part of an activity where we each do our interpretation of the piece ( finishing it as you said ) giving the user different perspectives on their art.
Club, did you want to join the Dog Pound?

hi dogmeat.
my answers are :
1- I think everyone gave their point of view clearly and their advice even clearer, in all i think he has lots he can use, not everything, but still lots.
2- IMO it gave him different ways to view his pixel from the view of artists of different styles and different skills.
3- I would suggest to SM that instead of doing what we think is best, he should see why we think it is best and try a different approach than ours in a way to define his own style while retaining the solutions we gave him for the pixel's imperfections.
Anyway he has gotten a really long way from where he started, he shouldnt find the rest as much of a problem as before.
btw. im working on an Anubis dog pound banner, coming sometime soon.

I believe its a good moment to clarify something about my participation on this activity. although I do support doogu's primary goal for this "group" by considering myself as a member, I won't be much of a real participant of it, mostly because two big reasons. first, because I am limited by my -still- poor english to give a proper comment and a solid critique in the for of text. However, I always try to drop something more elaborated than a simple "looks great". second and most important reason is, as I stated on my first post, I do not need a Flag to do what I do. this means that, even when I am consider myself as a member of this movement(by the reason I posted at the begining), I am not worried to follow its guidelines. but, in any case, feel free to rate and critique my comments.
Best regards from Metaru

firstly i talked about the light source which no one stated before. secondly i talked about how the mountains seem so smooth, reread the thread. Out of all the people who commented and some also restated , why you chose to do the questionnaire about me. And yes by restating i was actually sharing my opinion, its not my fault someone beat me to it.

the thing about commenting on C&C... im not sure its a good idea. The problem is that when you give crits with in mind the fact that youre SUPPOSED to give crits of a certain quality, you're not in the same mindset than if you just try to criticize a piece. Theres a risk that dog pound participants will see mistakes that arn't really there, or unconsciously tend to exaggerate in their comments.
A solution could be to only select a topic AFTER comments and crits were made. This way, participants wont actually know which topic will be reviewed as they comment on them, and will just have to watch the overall quality of their crits and comments rather than just aim at one single topic and comment the snot out of it, possibly misleading the author by mistake in the wake of their competition-driven enthusiasm.
Just a thought. :P

so pretty much all the active members of this forum are now in the "dog pound"? This whole thing seems silly to me.
you've created a partisan forum amongst the users. The only partisan
thing of a forum should be it's moderators in my opinion. On another
note, what qualifies a person in the 'dog pound' over a regular forum
member to give honest critique and such. (or anything your group does,
for that matter?)
maybe I'm just confused on the purpose of such a thing, but it doesn't seem like much to me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

We're not necesarily more "trusted" in critique.
We're basically just a group of people that are just trying to help others get better as well as ourselves.
Ask Dog, he'd be better at explaining this.

isn't that the purpose of the forum already?! I don't see a need for this group. -but again, its just my opinion. Not trying to spoil the fun or whatnot

Being part of a group makes them feel special.

and gives us an excuse "to be part of ..."
indeed. it is the forum's purpose already, just only with a flag waving over it.

just a joke, I needed a sig anyway, now I have one!.........
When dogpound gets up and running though I might make a canine one instead of a turtle sig, and then join if I can, meh.
or I could start a new team-TURTLEPOND!! mwuhahahaha
, Skooba-dude(TURTLEPOND!! leader)
edit: hang on a sec,
I bet you haven't seen a dog that tough.
