I know this was posted in the chatterbox, but at the rate things move in there it will be gone in a matter of hours. So I'm just posting it here for those that might have missed it. Maybe a mod could sticky this?

I think temporary. Because I was on today in the official IRC, it's working again.

For clarification, these are all part of Slashnet; they're different servers but they all share channels, messages, and users. Slashnet and #pixeljoint have never changed/gone down, but the problem that occurred was that area51.slashnet.org (the main server of the network and the website host machine) basically self-destructed. The IRC still existed but had to be accessed via one of the above links. To the extent of my knowledge, area51 is still gone, but another machine has been specified as host of the webpage and general irc.slashnet.org IRC.

pardon my ignorance, but how does exactly a server can 'self-destruct'? mean, surely it didn't exploded or something... but I am just curious...

I'm not too clear on that; on #help, the network's help channel, when I asked what happened, I was told it basically melted. It could've been a natural disaster like lightning or someone could've done something incompetent; I don't really know.
