well I thought it would be a good idea to have a topic where people can post their wip Animations as (small) tutorials.
To keep this thread clean I specified some rules:
1. Only post here if you think that your WIP-animation will help somebody.
2. try to save as many inbetween steps as possible. It's easier to follow the process that way.
3. write a little description of your general techique on the given subject.
I hope that there are some, that like my idea, and that this thread will become a good resource for quick tutorials in the future.
maybe pinning would be a good idea, if the resonance is good.

I hope the admin-horde will not kill me because of the doubleposting
Shading Metal, the squid way

When shading metal, I usualy start with rather dark base colors and block out the shape of the object with 3 to 4 colors. I then apply first highlights, and some rather "random" looking structure. I then gradualy bring in brighter colors to highlight the shapes some more, and add little details like welding seams, little holes and small details that give the rather "boring" metal-block/blob some more life. after that, it's just tweaking it till everything looks right.
