I was just curious, since I have never successfully animated a sprite, what software(s) you all use.

unFreeze. Make the individual frames with MSpaint, then simply drag them into unFreeze. Presto chango you've got yourself an animation.

I use Animation Shop, but like greenraven, I only use it for importing the individual frames and turning them into a gif.

The http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2 - Software for pixel art thread lists a bunch of programs, some of which you can also use for animating. Might be helpful.

when I tried to do my first few animations, I taught the reason they sucked was that others used better programs. Now I learned, it really has nothing to do what program you use for pixel art animations, because you will draw everything frame by frame in every program.. maybe some are easyer to use for some people and other programs for others, but really, if your animations get crappy you cant fix that by getting another program.
Thats just the same as with pixel art. Pixel art will be the same in every program. In other digital art, maybe you need an effect thats available in photoshop but not in gimp.. but in pixel art, you will always have the right tools.. just personal preference makes a difference between the programs then.

So what I mean to say is that you can get another program, but your animations wont get much better because of it. They can only get better by lots of practice ;)

looping is in every animation program I believe.
In case you need something temporarily. www.iaza.com will handle up to 15 frames, is online and free.

I'm pretty sure Windows Movie Maker is *not* an animation program. It's a video-editing program, and only exports video filetypes, which don't support looping no matter how you make them.

If you want to practise animation http://www.les-stooges.org/pascal/pencil/index.php?id=Home - Pencil is very nice. Not great for pixel work though.

Game Maker has an animation feature, but it lacks any kind of looping feature(yep, a GIF may not loop actually, and will only load once-or even, they can be set to a defined number of loops-)

I pixel in both graphics gale and photoshopgraphics gale lets me animate (free version will allow you to save as .png -no .gif), but I import my frames into image ready for the final version.

so, the final conclusion is: there is no golden program for pixel art/animating. just try some of the above mentioned, find the one/s that fit you, and use some tutorials to explore their maximun capabilities.

I use a combination between animation shop 3, Paint Shop 7, Mt Paint and MS PAint, for example.
