Hello from a newcomer! :)  I've been dabbling in pixel art on and off for a while, and recently decided to take it seriously (for a variety of reasons).  I was pointed to this site, and spent the past few days reading over the forums and making a picture.  It looks pretty much done to me, but since this forum is so kind as to exist, I'm going to fling it out and let you all pick it apart and tell me what I could do better.

Ref #1 is not working.
Some places look sketchy, like the back of the seat (not sure what to call it)
Awesome job anyways, welcome.

Oops. I can't seem to get a link in the post to work, but http://www.stanleysteamers.com/photoalbum/patpix/Carl-Amsley's-1910-Stanley-Model-70.jpg is the URL of the image and it loads fine if you paste it into a browser.

Are you talking about the seats or the folded-down top?

Both, next time make sure the lineart is perfect before coloring.

Alright... I'm not really sure what you mean by "perfect", though, or how that part is sketchy?

Not bad at all for someone new. There are technical things you can improve upon (aa the wheels, reduce colors, make sure you don't leave strays like that turquoise pixel on the rims, for example) but this is great.

Awr... i got caught by the word Steam :D
I would just add that front left wheel appears to be a bit off perspective, and not as "spherical" as it should be. same with its back counterpart.

welcome to Pj, i'm looking foward to see an updated version(and of course, more pixels from you)

Oops!  I did miss a blue pixel, didn't I.  I'll have to check more carefully next time.

I tried rounding the left wheels out some more - actually, I have to insert an edit here.  I did the left wheels as in the CARS left.  If you meant MY left, I feel stupid and will fix it later - as well as cleaning up the folded top and the seats.  I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do with the latter, so I don't know how well a job I did.

As for number of colors, I thought I had a pretty good number.   How many should I have aimed for?

The best way to detrmine color waste is to look at your palette at 1X like you have there. If they look similar to you they are a waste or may be refined with a whole new shade that can withstand the two or more being consolidated.

Colors in pixelart is an advanced thing so don't worry about it for now but don't get bad habits they are hard to break.
There is an adarias interview in the gallery front page that talks about color choices in pixelart that may be of interest.

Ah!  I see.  I merged the two midtone yellows now, thanks. :)

***EDIT because I don't like double-posting:

I'm going to call this done and submit it. :D
