I kinda want to make a gallery type site... that accepts only the greatest of the great pixel ART.

We would sell prints of pixel made by members. I'm not a great pixeller, but I've had xp with setting things like this up.

Anyone interested... and not trying to be mean or nothing... but you have to be damn good... like so-lou.

I have complete the site layout, and found a good name.

Also, I need at least 3 artists. I really think this could turn into something.

Will program site soon.

No offence, since for some strange reason you don't like me, you probobly wont like this coming from me, but, chances are, this wont work out. You can go for it, but most of the extremely talented pixel artists out there, before commeting to something like this, will want to see the site programmed and done, see that you are trust worthy of up holding the site, and going to give the artists there fair share of the money. Im not saying you can't do it, it will just take alot of work.

Also, most people don't by pixel art like they do 3d models. Most people that hire someone to pixel for a game or something, hire them for the specific project, the don't just by sprites and such off a site.

Good luck anyways.

For every second spent wondering if you can do something, you could spend 2 seconds doing it.

Thanks garage, and everything will be setup before hand.

But main point is, were not making vg art. We're making art to hang on walls.
This is/is about to be the 21st century. This could turn into a huge movement.

I also think this site is a bit blinding, and looks incredibly unproffessional - so trying to get good artists onto it will be really, really hard.

You should try to design a page that works at multiple screen resolutions, and if you want a box like this, it should fit neatly in the whole page. As it is right now, it's just so cramped. And your navigation bar is just..::twitchtwitchtwitch.:: Try to make it line up, and to a bit more comprehensible...

All I have to say is "Never use pixel fonts like the one you have (hooge I believe) in a size more than 8 because it will look crappy" I'm done.

No offense meant by this post but:

I think that only the greatest pixelartists can make a site for the "greatest of the great pixel ART."

And if this idea was to happen, the layout would be good, unlike this which looks totally beginner-ish and (again no offense) well, just horrible.

WOAH THERE.

Settle down... I don't care what you have to say. If you want to help then reply.

BTW I tried out the design with text and images and it just loos out of place.

I'm going to do a upgraded version (totally different) and post it in my gallery.

HOOGE? I made this font kinda... I just did it in 5x5 pixels.

EDIT:

I'll just post here.

I totally agree with you on this.  It would be like creating a website for Marvel Comics when you have read only the covers.

Seriously, if you don't care, then don't post it.  Just PM people you would like to help from.  People are just giving thier opinions and suggestions.  And anyways, who decides the "damn good" pixel artists?  What I find to be the best I have ever seen, someone like So-Lou might find really crappy.  You are really jumping ahead of the gun here.  If you are going to design a website, you need to plan first.  Work out ALL of the details, then start designing the website.  So far all you have recieved negative feedback or neutral feedback from the community you are targeting.  It is in theory a good idea, but it is a very rough one.

I only directed at that at ryangfx because of how elite he acts.

Duh? I haven't even program it yet, got the license... what do you think? No... designing of the website holds the key to makeing the whole thing work. Program though... not really.

That comment about finding this crappy and that not, is really stupid. Its more cut and dry than you think.

QUIT FLAPPING YOUR GUMS...

I said I only want to hear from the people interested in it. If you want to help,  help, don't say this is a bad idea, don't do this, don't jump the gun. I DON'T WANNA HERE YOUR SAD STORY THERE GUY...

Sorry, you are right.  I guess doing this for a living for the past 5 years has taught me nothing.  As for being cut and dry...  Sheesh, apparently you are thinking everyone has the same taste, dealing with people's tastes and opinions is never cut and dry, it is more complicated then you think.  You really need to grow up, I now know why Ryan has that attitude sometimes, dealing with young, niave, and immature kids like you.

Don't bother responding to this, I will keep out of this thread, no reading or responding.  By responding, you are really showing your maturity, I'm dropping it, can you?

You couldn't listen.

Yes it is cut and dry, THE ARTIST sucks, or they don't suck, as for art yes it is very diverse and complex. I think?

KEEP ON THE FREAKING TOPIC.

Doesn't matter what font it is, the other layout used a pixel font and I think I would know a thing or two about web designing ...

Everybody please stay on topic or this thread will be closed.

Back to the layout, I personally think it lacks a true pixel artists theme. The fact that you used such large pixels to create this represents, somewhat, a slap in the face to anyone who you might want to submit their pixels to your site. I think that you could put some time into this and give it some detail and flare by creating:

  • a logo for the site
  • a better menu bar
  • gallery thumbnails
  • some general text (not necessarily saying anything at the moment, just to fill up the space where you would have text)

That is all

hahahahaha. Then you made a mistake posting this thread

Ryan Gfx... I didn't ask for crap at the beginning of this thread. I ask if anyone was interested. Not there 2 cents.

Pixelblink, yur response was well thought out and worthwhile. It really does lack, so it's going to be completly redo, with all the stuff youv'e described. The top 2 obviously will be done. The idea of gallery icons would be better. So in accordance to these mess-ups...

this thread has another question, what kind of layout should I use.

I rarely ever agree with Ryan, he was just stating the facts. Why start a thread if you don't care what people say? If you're making a site and you don't want peoples input, make it yourself and don't show it to us for feedback.

Honestly, I think everybody that posted so far has had a relevant response to your site and design ideas. When building a website or any kind of customer-related thing (magazines, ads, etc) you always have to be able to relate to your market... which is US! Pixel Artists. Secondly, you will have to relate to the customers you'd want to buy these prints from. I think, form a business standpoint, you really have think this through before you even begin to build a site on it.

Asking what kind of layout you should have is like asking what kind of book you should read. What do you want? Give us a list of examples at least so we have a visual idea of what you have in mind.

How many times do I have to say it: I wanted to know if anyone was interested in joining it. Not there input, I showed the screens to draw people in.

Um... already discussed?

What kind of look should I bring to it? ?

Also, what kind of logo would be appropriate?

You are contradicting yourself in this thread many times over DarkHawk. You keep asking questions for peoples input.

Anyways, I'm closing this thread. If you just want to offer pixel artists a position to help make the site, then start a new thread in the JOB OFFERINGS category. This thread is useless otherwise if you don't want peoples input.
