So I've been trying to get into pixel art, i like the idea that you start with nothing and can create anything and have complete control over everything, down to the very last dot.
My problem is, as I'm sure many of you know it isn't the easiest of things to just pick up and do, it takes time, practice and patience and if it didn't for you, well damn i wish i had whatever you've got. :P
Anyway to the point, i was looking for some help, I've looked over your board, i saw the tutorials for newbies thread and most of them I've already seen and tried out what I'm really after though is tips, advice and things from pixel artists themselves - i.e you guys.
Where should a beginner be starting? What should i be practicing and remembering, hell what was the first pixel you did?
Just information really, is all I'm looking for. I guess this topic isn't to specific and I've rabbled on a bit. Sorry about that I'll end this now. XD
Thanks for any help guys!

<--------------------------First pixel I did.
Try a weekly challenge, or the latest fad. Those are good to do. You could also try just doing random shapes and things, stuff could turn into something from nothing.

pixel yourself or something from your enviroment, a tribute to your favoruite character/serie/anything, use a reference and draw a scene, mimic someone else's style, do a mockup, participate in the meta challenge...
posibilities are endless. once you got an idea, go ahead to try the first steps by yourself, do some trial and error, and if you find yourself stuck at any point post in the WIP section of the forums and we'll try to help/guide you as much as we can.

Yeah, basically just start on something and show it to us on the WIP board, we can help you from there. :)

My interest began with the good old days of point and click adventures.
And the longest I've ever worked on a piece was about a year. And believe it or not, but it was my avatar <------------(The one you're looking at right now)

wow did sadisticpixel make this thread then disappear D:
To be honest...I think his reasoning for wanting to get into pixels is really one of the best, not that you can really put value statements on things like that, but I've having absolute control over every pixel and just by making a slight change in one of the pixels can change everything.
It's always nice to hear people getting into pixel art for pragmatic reasons like that

Nope I'm here. More of a lurker than a poster though, i read but don't often post.
Thanks for the advice anyway guys, when i get something together that i think I'll finish (i have a nasty habit of making something, deciding it looks unsaveable and deleting it.) I might post it in the WIP section.
Anymore advice, info, whatever is welcome.
