This topic would fit better in the Resources and Support forum.

Anyway, look at this topic for pros and cons of various graphics programs: http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2&PN=1 - http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2&PN =1

 - Adobe Illustrator
Mainly for vector based graphics and text. Designed for Desktop Publishing.

 - Micromedia Fireworks
Macromedia's version of photo-shop. I like it.

 - Adobe Photoshop
Designed for a wide variety of tasks, with many advanced bitmap effects not available to Illustrator. As the name suggests, started out as a photo touch up and editing tool.

 - Adobe Imageready
Not sure about this one. I think it has something to do with preparing Photoshop images for web...

I'm probrably the only one here who actually uses photoshop for drawing pixel art instead of just putting it in for transparency, windows and junk. Photoshop I think's the best program out there. It's just a wee' bit harder to use and you need to set it up to work with pixelart right. But in the end I like it much more. I used to hate drawing in ms paint then taking it in to photoshop for transparency. Now I just do it all in PS. PS's color loss feature is very handy for transparency and I basically like PS for all it's great effects and things that it can do to text.

Photoshop is perfect for other kinds of art also.

gotta say that I love using Paint Shop Pro for all my pixelling. It also comes with Animation Shop which works great with it.

I have 7.02 ... I've used it since the start and can't be bothered to learn another program. Like they say - if it ain't broke, don't fix it

Macromedia Fireworks is great for Web Graphics, and i also like to use it for Pixelling as i can control layers, transparencies, etc.

Should have nipped this in the bud quicker... don't want a bunch of topics about the same thing. Please post to the sticky topic in this section for pixel art software discussions.
