I am going to pitch in early here. First, I like the challenge, but man, it's really skating a line to have to make it all original pixels when you are asking us to take an existing character.
I am specifically going to reference this Venom Sprite:

Let's see if I can squeeze the time in for this...

I didn't intend for people to just modify an existing sprite. I was hoping people would get creative and make a new sprite based off the original.

Well, naturally. I was simply posting my idea; being Sagat.

I was thinking of a character that isn't pixeled, but fully cgi to start with.
Maby Kerrigan from StarCraft or Wirt from Diablo.

 (so not done) "Okay, I let you replace me, SD me, completely f**k up my anatomy, but the hair?"
guile was the best in snk vs capcom for ngpc.
the best.
updated some, and
->
updated again, lowered the saturation, got rid of some colors, gave him a mesh shirt
and here is a younger version :p
 (okay so his biceps aren't bigger than his head as they are in-game but still)

Mobichan, I don't think anyone is misunderstanding your intention here. It says specifically new pixels, so (time allowing) that's what I and others will provide.

Badass, Setz. B)
Mine so far;

Although it may look like an edit at the moment, I can assure you it isn't. I merely wanted to get the shape of the head/ face similar so it is recognisable.

hey guise, just remember there's http://www.rajeun.net/signs.html - more to aging than gray hair. Just thought i'd mention that. Try to be creative.

Are you sure you wanna start this way? Creating as you go along can easilly f**k up your proportions.

Hmm, I know, I've had trouble with it before.. but I've had more trouble trying to get the human figure in lines.. so, I'll take my chances... :/

I'm not sure if Beat 'em ups are allowed, but it being on MUGEN as a playable figther makes everything cheaper :3

@Skull: nice one.. a Ray-Charles-Sagat ;)
@Metaru: I don't understand your statement on making "everything cheaper".
Anyway, The Punisher was my favourite "fighting game" on the Mega Drive. :) sincerely I picked up him, because I know more on his background that could lead me to something "interesting" to draw, than any other character I had in mind... hope this will not put me out, cause I'm quite finished with it :P

I can suggest something that I used to do; make a very small (maybe 10x10) version of the pose, this way you're not really "restricted" by any lines, no skeleton to follow, but you still have a constant reminder of what it was you wanted to make in the first place. (how can you pixel on that neon green o.x)
also, about beat em ups, while they're not VS fighting games, if anyone has ever played one, there is defenitely a sh*t load of fight to them. I say make it anyways, even if its decided its not appropriate to the competition, I'm not really sure if that guile of mine qualifies. At best, you'll have a good entry for the competition, at worst, you'll have a good entry in your pixel joint gallery :)
[edit: hey skull I thought of the http://live2travel.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/arnoldbodybuildingbeforeafter.jpg - perfect ref for ya :D]

Here it is my not-yet-final Punisher version. I decided to depict him in an always-(trying to)-fight-the-crime pose, but maybe I didn't succeed in the sprite reproduction: I'actually quite unsure to remove the background providing a backgroundless version. Suggestions?

I'd insist: larger pants D:
and if you're planning to follow the original sprite's style, i reccomend you to avoid the dithering.

sigh, Skull I know you can do better than this ;_;
To start off with, the pose looks like he'll fall over. You know you should start with the general shape, and refine. I know this has been mentioned already...but sadly it's pretty much always true. It's hard to have good anatomy if you're just making it as you go.
Personally, I don't think you should submit this, it's below the standards you've set for yourself, based on your gallery.
On a side note...I like the mini version on the top of the picture.
