... ... Icons, quite a few people have done CD covers and magazine covers, TV Advertisements, lego?, I've seen some mario (and other game characters) cross stitching, censoring out people's faces(the people who kill people on the street), placing post-it notes on walls...

Hi Sapphira,

When I joined PixelJoint I was looking for a place where
I could learn how to make sprites and objects for my game.
However I have found that working with pixels my oil and acrylics
paintings became better. I even painted a 'pixel' painting. But this
is nothing new.

There were painters that use 'pixels' to make paintings before ( http://www.sharkforum.org/brandl_images/b_b_close.jpg - chuck close
for instance)
When you regard a pixel = point then there is even a painting style
dedicated to it: pointillism. A famous one is this

A pixel can also be seen as a little colored stone which has been used
ages and ages ago called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosaic - mosaic

My avatar is a pixelled version of a painting I did.
Once I was pixelling a portrait of my niece to show her what
I did when I am drawing on my computer.
She wanted to have it as a picture in her room so we printed
my pixelled image 10x the size (to see the pixels enlarged) and
that paper was hanging in her room.

Pixel art is all around us.

Best regards from

M.E.

I've made some desings for clothes and tshirts, and also made some pixel cookies myself.

in resume:Pixel art is not limited to sprites and such. at least not anymore(if it was in the past, wich i really doubt). but it is a common misconception to belive that pixel art is only the process of making sprites for games.

Pixel art comes in handy in various situations. Like those huge LED signs that only have four colours and a resolution of 50×50.

If you're thinking of seriously going into graphic design, you're going to have to get photoshop. Most graphic designers know photoshop as well as corel paint and other programs like that.

@Aleiav: I'd suggest, if you are not company-compelled to work with PS, and you don't need to print in CMYK, any other graphic software is GOOD, as well as The GIMP.

Either way, I think not knowing Photoshop and being a graphic designer is kind of... I dunno. It'd be like wanting to be a web designer and not knowing Flash or php. Sure a lot of webpages are just in html but... it's still better for you to know more facets of the job you're doing.

Hmm, i wouldn't say Photoshop was that important to graphic design. But meh.

Yes. The DS pretty much replaced the GBA. I mean, when was the last time you saw a new GBA game coming out?

majority of my pixels are forum signatures, avatars, forum awards and some niffty emotes i made that only make sense on those forums.

i only recently started doing pixels for a game, and its turning out to be more annoying than i thought, especially since im pixeling each frame by itself and i have to do all the maps :/  the main character is my avvy ;)
