Recently, I've posted a character's idle and walking animations to pixeljoint:




I was pretty excited about working on a NES-ish game, but then a some things struck me:

1. Small, "chubby" character are a pain to animate properly
2. A smaller screen resolution means less space for gameplay
3. I usually prefer "serene" idle animations (also, "bumpy" animations are more suitable for fighting characters, IMHO)

So, I redesigned the character, ditched the NES pallete and did a minimal idle animation:



What do you think about it? I think it lacks the energy of the first version, but that's sort of the point.

I can hardly tell what the idle animation is doing. I think you should remake the old one.

Remake looks great though.
