Pxerin's picture (http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/4718.htm) is a direct rip from an old demoscene artist. Pxerin was already banned from DeviantArt for the same reason.

Yours, me.

Thats odd. Pxerin re-joined deviantart just this month using a new nickname:

www.pxd.deviantart.com%20 - www.pxd.deviantart.com

All of her stuff does look suspiciously good. It's very fishy, and I have no doubts that she DID rip some old game thing.

The image is now a black pixel, as is the avatar and now there's nothing in their gallery.
On deviantART all their messages seem to be either nothing or f repeated again and again. :/

http://www.back2roots.org/Pics/Find/Lazur%2C1/ - http://www.back2roots.org/Pics/Find/Lazur%2C1/

found the link for Lazur's works through Halfliquid at DA. Just needed the visual proof but, it looks like pxerin has already pulled outta here. If anyone EVER notices a rip again, please note Sedge or myself (Sedge is away for a couple of weeks)- we'll do what we can with it. URLs always help your case as well and makes it easier for us to pinpoint where the originals came from.

And Ryan, http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/www.pxd.deviantart.com%20 - www.pxd.deviantart.com  is already banned... lol. They work quickly over there sometimes.

Thanks for everyone's attention and help on this matter.

I knew it aaaall along. And nobody agreed with me but Chesheyre. Of course, I DID only speak to Chesheyre about it.....but that's beside the point!  I knew those pixel pieces looked too much like a computer had done it - when you zoomed in on say, the Mona Lisa portrait, it just looked like a machine had placed each pixel there, instead of a human. For instance, when you look at Jaeden's work, you can see how she thought about it, like where she knew to place pixels etc. But the Mona Lisa piece was like - PHWOAR nobody has that type of logic to place pixels two-bit by two-bit to dither and stuff....if you get what I mean. ><' Am I confusing everyone?

I asked her on AIM, pxd, to do a step by step tutorial of her work basically trying to get her to squirm because I knew she hadn't made those pieces but I acted like I was her biggest fan.  And she's all 'mmm I may do that in the future' - HAHAHA bullsh*t. Anyway, glad she didn't make them for real because otherwise we'd all have to up our game.

I lost you at "PHWOAR" And if you only told Cheshyre... then everyone believed you, did they not?

Neverever seen that person's stuff, otherwise I prolly would have investigated, cause I NEED to find excuses for why people are so much better than me. So-Lou takes performance-enhancing drugs, just so you know.

I knew it too. Was waaaay too fishy. Those 1x2 pixels stuff are nearly impossible to be made "in mspaint", and I know it because I use it and know what would take.

But, the difference here, what didn't made me go "RIPPER!" with absolutely sure, is that I don't doubt those things are genuine pixel art. Some demoscene and amiga artists are really that hardcore, and I've found animations of stuff like that in progress...

So yeah, like I told everyone I talked about it, she's either a bitch for being a ripper or a bitch for having absurd talent and wanting to drop pixel art.

Holy crap.  I don't know what's more obnoxious... someone ripping someone else's work or these elitist pixel art experts insulting everyone on the site just because they are not aware of some obscure artist.  Sorry we don't have any PHDs in pixel art on the mod staff.  It's just a site to enjoy and post pixel art for f**k's sake.

Btw, I'm referring to the posts here...

Well, that's really stupid indeed. The demoscene and amiga art scene are pretty big and, say, underground, and most of pixel artists from this community (PJ) wouldn't really sympathize with their techniques, means of work and, well, everything else.

We're quite different communities, even if we're basically into the same form of art. Like two different religions worshipping the same god...

I don't know sh*t about the demo scene/amiga scene, but I don't see why I should be insulted for this.  Why the hell are they insulting every member of this community for not knowing an artist that has never been around here? This site is for people just trying to have fun with pixel art and that's all.

I feel like they just came over to my house to tell me how crappy it is.

I don't know much either, but from what I know, here are a few differences:

1) Some of the art is used more to show off along with the programs they do (the demos), and the community is very focused on programming as well as on the art (and we're more focused on art, and mostly don't give a f**k about programming)
2) Apparently, some people code their own little programs to make their pixel art, which is part of the challenge and process sometimes.
3) These guys are old-skool, they started a long, long time ago, like '95 or before, and belong to a different era where their community began. They're around for longer than we are. (hence the elitism)
4) They work on different, specific platforms. We don't really give a f**k, we just draw with whatever we can.

Some links:

But again, I might be understanding all this wrong. These are just my impressions, from the little I could find out.

Wow, thanks a lot for that.  I'm sure you've done some research to come to these conclusions, but I still wish we had some people involved in the demo scene on this forum to help us understand.

It looks like a lot of great stuff comes out of this art/programming scene and I'm kind of bummed that my only experience with their community has come dripping with hostility.

It still sounds recent, but that was 10 years ago! Ha, I was 7!

I agree with Sedge, I was totally pissed off by the accusers in that post, after finding it by accident when looking through my favourites gallery. I think you dealt with them very reasonably PB, and they still threw abuse at you like 'why dont you believe us. We are gods.' Yes they were right, but why is that our fault?

About these Amiga artist: Woah, almost all of their stuff is really impressive. Despite their different techniques, often I've found that there work largely consists of nudey pics of voluptous females, and many of the time I've found some of their more fantasy based pictures (ones that dont try and be a photo recreation) to lack a lot in character. They make up for this with awesome palettes and technically brilliant displays of knowledge. Thats just what I've noticed from viewing some works over at http://www.gfxzone.org/gallery_personal.html - http://www.gfxzone.org/gallery_personal.html

I'm mainly just shocked that these people exist, I feel motivated to push my pixelling skills so its hard to feel an animosity towards these people, because essentially theyre just like you and I.

By the way, I love the religious take on the communities, 1ucas, haha.

Thanx dude. The same would go for anybody else accusing somebody. I just want the visual proof before I jump to a conclusion. I also went and asked Halfliquid at deviantART about pxerin. I do my research yanno.

Yeppo, and thats the way it should be. I respected you mainly because you didnt explode at their accusational tone. But I suppose everyone gets angry sometimes, especially when it has to do with ripping other people off, something I think all pixel artists can sympathise with.

Well, when you compare it to how long the pixel art community has actually been around, it's about half the scene's current lifespan ago or so.

I am not good enough to have that happen as of yet.

I understand where they were coming from, one of their respected artists was ripped off really bad.  I would probably think about doing the same thing if someone ripped off someone here as well.  But being elite isn't just being the best, it also comes with how you present yourself as well, atleast in my opinion.  Someone who is really good, willing to help others, and can keep a cool head even in this situation, is elite in my opinion.  But someone who comes and basically insults other artists who are basically doing the same art as them, makes you a dick.  I have respect for them as artists, but right now that is about for now.

What!? How old are you? That was 10 years ago! By then those guys were pixelling for like 5 years already, so do the math: most of these people are 25 years old, at least, while most of us in this forum are below 18. I was only 9 by then, I didn't even had a computer! (got it in 97)

What we have here is a bunch of people with 10 years (or more!) of pixel art experience. Their amazing artwork is totally justified.

So yeah, I think that's really old. Also, you gotta remember that for being around for so long these people have seen a lot more than we have, so no wonder they acted like "the wise old people against the ignorants". Silly, indeed, but they had good reasons...

By the way, I love the religious take on the communities, 1ucas, haha.

Hah, thanks. The analogy suited well.

By the way, in case you guys wanna check out where these Amiga artists do their stuff, look up for "Deluxe Paint" on an image search. Here's a screen shot:
