I have a question if you don't mind. I use the program PhotoImpact X3 and it works very well for my pixel art. In the program under the Photo menu there is an option to add noise I can pick Uniform, Monochromatic, and set the value to 5 and get a multiple color background without having to use the multiple color paintbrush setting. Also I use desaturated on the top image and a color change on the red.
My question is, Would this still be considered Pixel art if you were to use these setting.
Here is an example of what I was talking about.

Thank you Sheryl

No, because you don't have full control over what this function is doing.
Besides, you can get better results with a little effort

Correct. The most common definition of pixel art states that every pixel is placed by hand (with a couple of exceptions such as flood filling).

Thank you both so much. I had a feeling it was not considered correct pixel art but it was a question asked me I was not sure of. I have always used the paintbrush only when creating pixel art, I go for the extra effort and control myself, but trying to teach someone else how to create it has become a bit hard because they ask questions I don't know how to answer. I can create it just can't explain it. lol
Thank you again so very much. If I get another question I can't answer I know where to come.

in any case, i doesnt fit for the requirements of this gallery/site, as we aim for pixel art in its most """pure""" form. you are free to your own judgement to work on how craft your pixel art in other circumstances.

I have always used the paintbrush to create the pure form of pixel art because that is the way I learned to create it. But I'm finding that trying to teach others is a bit hard to do because they ask questions I'm not sure of and since I'm the only person I know that does pixel art I get stuck for the correct answer. Asking myself for a second opinion doesn't seem to work well. LOL
I came across this site while looking for the answers and thought I would get a good second opinion here. You guy's seem to have a great handle on Pixel art from what I have seem in your awesome pictures.
Thank you again for your input.
