Has anyone ever had their computer die on them while they were working on something in MSPaint?

My computer did just that. Now when I try to edit the .PNG file it gives me the error message.

Paint cannot read this file.
This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported.

Even trying to open it in explorer gives me a broken image.

blagh... I've looked all over for help about this.. and I really thought I'd find more people who have had similar problem.. not enough people work in MSPaint.

Anyway.. does anyone know how to fix this problem.... I worked for like 6 days on this project! I may just be a big wussy and cry. >_<

Can you upload it somewhere? I'd be more than happy to see if I could recover most or all of it.

EDIT: It'd also help to know the width and height in pixels.

Thank you SO much for offering to help..

tried uploading to image shack:
The file format you attempted to upload is not supported.

Same stuff with photobucket... I don't know where else to try.

I haven't changed the file format in anyway. I was simply working on it in mspaint and my computer just shut off.

Heres more or less what happend.

I saved what I was working on and then went to close MSPaint.. as soon as I closed the program the computer simply died... I allowed the computer to reboot so I could check to see if everything was ok. It rebooted fine and gave me the same error message about system recovering from a serious yatta yatta yatta.. Everything checked out... however.. I didn't check on the png I was working on and just went to work.

I got home and tried to work on it and found out it had been fried somehow.. :(

I'm not as terribly upset by this as I thought I was going to be cause I was able to remember all the parts in the picture... it's only a piece to a larger project... but still I'm that much behind.

Hmm... could you put it in a .zip and send it as an attachment in an e-mail to pixelmonkey <at> ensellitis.com?

I got your e-mail, but the prognosis isn't good.

The image file is just a hundred thousand or so null bytes--that is, looking at the zeroes and ones, you're missing all the ones. I don't think there's anything that can be done. Sorry.

I guess this underscores the importance of saving often and to multiple files, though it's a shame it turned out this way.

It's alright.. :3 Lession learned.

I got out of the habit of saving progress images... I used to have huge folders for one single picture. Don't know why I stop doing that.:(

Thank you SO much for what you did do. It is VERY appreciated. You have no idea <3
