Okay I have a bone to pick with some of the members here. I was thinking I shouldn't name names - but why the hell not?
I am goddamned sick of reading pathetic little comments on not only my own work but other peoples work in the galleries and WIP threads. What is the point? You go to the effort of typing a few letters, why not try to string a few sentences together and come off as a normal, decent, intelligible person? Hmm? Instead you have to come off as a jackass who can't even think clearly and is A MORON? For example:
Here's a HELPFUL and INSIGHTFUL comment on my Uter piece:
gambit1234 says: 'haha hes fat'
Hahahahaha, he is indeed fat. WHAT AN IDIOTIC POST. How is this beneficial to me in any way? I'm not saying you have to launch into paragraphs of constructive crits etc. I don't even LIKE crits for pieces in the gallery. However - you are meant to say SOMEthing insightful or helpful or even to cheer the person up - no f**king 'he's fat' or 'he's blue har dee har'. NO sh*t jackass. How about next time you think about commenting you walk into a wall next time. ><
Heeey here's another great comment by gambit1234 on someone's piece 'The Hanged' which they must've spent a good deal of time and effort on:
'eek'
'eek'. 'EEK'. That's it.
This is so stupid. Seriously, this is really dumb. If you're going to comment on peoples work - and this is to everyone - then MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. No artist likes to get minor irritating comments like 'teehee it's green.' WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS HERE. Why are people so STUPID. WHY? WHY??
I've deleted my entire gallery just because I can't handle wading through the sh*tty comments to get one decent one from someone who can think for more than five seconds. God. ><
gambit1234 comments on 'Mimi Tachikawa':
'dude u must like digimon huh'
Razman811 comments on 'Uter':
'that was a cool episode'
sam comments on 'Freddy Krueger':
' *vomitting emoticon* im gay can u help me out'
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????

I'm also sick of this sh*t. It brings absolutely nothing to us, artists, and the community in general.
It's just a complete waste of time and host space (and oxygen too, because these are *shudder* actual people!). It's a shame we have to deal with these kind of morons and pathetic comments, and I just wished this website had zero tolerance with such users.
Unfortunetly, that's not the case. I've been feeling that PJ members had declined in quality since I joined, which is a great disappointment.
I think something should be done about this. More strict rules and the punishment of such behaviour is the least we could expect here. It's either that, or the community will go nowhere but down....
But other thing I should mention, that annoys me tremendously, is that we have lots of users who are just too touchy. They can't stand any argument against them (crits or whatever), and usually explode\get offended with the tiniest little sh*t. We see lots of this in the WIP forums, and the general reaction seems to be PRO the stupid, weak person.
What the hell are we getting from this? Absolutely nothing! The person won't improve at all, and then the community won't improve at all. Hell, it's against the whole f**king point of the WIP forum!
What I feel is that there is a general and excessive "don't hurt them"\"be nice" way of doing things in this site, and this is just plain bad and stupid.
This thread, for example, is a goddamn excellent thing to improve things. It must hurt, that's the point. There is no "you could have put this a lot better\nicer", because it just doesn't work when dealing with things and people like this.
This sh*t got to stop. That's all.
I'm nearly leaving this place as well... I'm intolerant to stupidity, it makes my brain itch and my eye twitch.

I hardly get comments...
and most of the commenters aren't really open to too many different styles.
it's hard to get a real artistic critique here, anyways...
it seems like everybody's just concerned with the current styles and what not.. rather than the over all artistic value of any particular piece...
and actually, over the past nights that I've been looming around here, I've been asking my self constantly why I go to this place... that's not to bag on any of the admins here, but just the people don't seem very well recieving, to me.

If you thought those comments were stupid, take a look at the ones http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/icons/comicbooks/ - posted http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/icons/movies/ - at http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/icons/sports/ - all http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/icons/television/ - of http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/icons/games/ - the http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/icons/misc/ - subcategories .

Yea yea, all that crap too, but:
If I (for example) ask a question about my graphics, like "What do you think", then I expect a fair answer.
If it is horrible, say it is horrible, not just like: "its not the best but...". For gods sake, if I want a fair comment, then give it to me, otherwise, don't waste time on posting into those threads.

1ucas and so-lou: I understand that there's a lot of pointless comments out there in the community (and every other community in human history), but do you expect the mods to police every random comment on the site? I just don't have time for that and I don't think the other mods do either. If someone posts something you don't like either ignore it or you can report their comments for deletion if it bothers you so much.
You are both really excellent pixellers and you've both suggested good ideas for improving the site in the past. It would be a shame if you both just gave up because you are too bothered by comments.
To everyone: This is YOUR community. If you have some great idea for improving the community then share it with the rest of us. Trashing the community, the admins and the site is just plain pointless.

I agree. Whenever I post something like, "If it's horrible just say so" people will say, "It's not that bad, but..." and then they post a hundred-thousand things that are wrong with it. I HATE that.
oh, and so-lou, I'm hoping I wasn't targeted in your hatred spewing rants of violent anger...

A suggestion:
There could be a word-limitation on comments.
If you put the word "nice" and submit it an error window will pop up
stating "you must post atleast 20 words, you are 19 words short"
This will force real CC. Either that, or detract useless commenters.

Good call ryan. I'm too lazy to do the "word" limit part, but I'll definitely put in a character limit. That should help with the one word slackers. Keep it legit.

Dude. I am on here every day - I DO have the time to police the boards. I just don't know how to delete comments in the galleries. Give me the power and I'll enforce it - at least in my gallery, more stricter than required.
I'm not trying to trash the community of admins - just the DICKHEADS. There are so many - it's so hard to deal with them. Why can't people just be cool? Ugh.

Check out that little skull icon next to a comment to delete a post. I guess that doesn't really jump out much.

I guess that just shows that you didn't like to post long things. Just joking, don't hurt me
It was annoying when people would post stuff like "fillingupspacefillingupspacefillingupspace" and I wouldn't like to see that here.

Oh my god, it is NOT that hard to type more than 100 characters. If you really have something to say then you can easily beat that. If not then you obviously just want to raise your post count.
And sedge - I've searched for it and can't find it ANYwhere. It doesn't jump out much, no, in fact it doesn't AT ALL.

Ryan: word count/character limit sounds like it might work. Thanks for throwing the idea in
So-lou: are you serious? the skull is easily seen just to the right on the commenters avatar and to the left of the comment itself - of course this is on the main site. Also, I think in the future instead of going off on a big rant like this, you could address the issue with the other admins so we could try and find a rational solution before bringing it to the public. That's what you and the rest of us admins do or should be doing. Let's try to build a community before trying to bring it down. I seem to remember a similar rise to anger situation at DA when you had thought I'd not added your (non-existant) pixel website to my journal list on purpose. All the while it had turned out that you weren't thinking clearly and hadn't even completed your site or something to that extent. I'm not trying to attack you with this, I am merely suggesting that you think things through on a calm and rational mind before going off on a tangent. You're an emotional gal as we can all see and you make me laugh my ass off sometimes... but other times I'm wondering where the hell you're coming from. I see alot of great potential in you as an artist and as an admin here so hope you stick around.
To everybody:

I think everybody should judge harshly. Just don't come off as a complete asshole and say something stupid like "this is the worst piece of sh*t pixel art I've ever seen and you should open your window, unplug your computer, and push your hardrive out onto the concrete." That said, with more people placing advanced comments on a piece (even to people who can't handle a critique whatsoever) will help get rid of them and create a more balanced community of people who actually put thought into their comments. This community is really still in its baby years and it will NEVER be as "awesome" as people say pixelation was. We are different from them in so many ways - not just the caliber of artists. We really need to have everybody focus on helping eachother out to create bigger and BETTER pixels. Honestly, I don't even put time into critiquing certain pieces as some others do because I find that the artist hasn't put any obvious time into their work. They don't make the effort means I don't make the effort to tell them how to do/fix/change something either.
Back to the administrative side of things, it is extremely difficult - as Sedge said - to read through each and every single comment. All we can and try to do is encourage everybody to take part in projects and get along amicably. Personally, this is the first forum I've ever had the pleasure of taking part in and I'm still learning what it means to be an administrator as time goes on. I am always open to ideas and suggestions for the moderation of this site. This community is and will be only as good as the community members make it to be. If you all decide that there's too many idiot people commenting and take all your sh*t out of your gallery, that's cool but, it's only making things worse by not actually solving the situation. The same sh*t happens at deviantART all the time as well and alot of you haven't left there yet.
I'd like to encourage some of the more experienced pixel artists to create threads to help new pixellists out with tutorials, etc. They've done it in other pixel forums and it seems to work. Being an experienced pixel artist should mean you have more to share with people... just don't wait for them to make the mistakes before you correct them.
My brain is exhausted now... more on this later

Yeah, let's all downplay my post by just saying I'm feisty and emotional and have a fiery temper and 'oooh there goes old so-lou again, ooh she's got a temper, that one' la dee da dee da. Right.
Okay I'm going to look for the skull. *edit* I found it - it just doesn't work. I clicked on it to delete the asinine comment 'five minutes' on my Jack avatar - and then came back to it - was still there. Hurrah.

Geezus.... I would not even have made a comment that long about your post had it just been a matter of trying to downplay what you were saying. I'm not going to debate this matter either.

Which comment is the one you're trying to get rid of? Seriously, I see no offending comments whatsoever. Just because someone is astonished that you made Jack in 5 minutes doesn't mean they are accusing you of something. You need to lighten up. BIG TIME.
