Hi

I tried to do a realistic pixel art, it was fun, challenging and time-consuming

sadly, I used the darken tool (with a brush), to darken the half of my apple. It was a single click that had dire consequences.

All the pixels ended up being retouched since the darken merged dark gradients together. I was tired, frustrated about the crappy banding it created in the shadows and I decided to fix it the next day.

I ended up redoing all that region.

I didn't know that the darken tool was considered a dirty tool and I regret using it profoundly since using it actually implied more work for me, in order to undo the mess it did. I equally regret saving the file without doing an undo before hand :)

It's weird because as soon as a piece looks realistic, meaning that it doesn't have that pixel-feel to it, or it doesn't have contour, etc. People immediatly think that you're a cheat and that it's not pixel art.

I do understand that in order to uphold the noble tradition of pixel art, you need to be very strict in terms of criterias and so, I don't feel too bad that this work needs revision.

So tell me, is my last piece pixel art? please revise it
And, what do you think about realistic pixel art?

thanks

Yeah, remind me why on earth you're in a program with a darken tool that apparently darkens colors automatically for you?

It didn't do it in my stead
I did it
regretted it
then had to fix it

Anyways, it's not such a big deal
I did another piece and used only the pen
I guess I had to learn the hard way

cheers!

everyone makes mistakes. some people tend to forget to save and end losing way more than a simple region.
