ok, so I've started this a few weeks ago but I got bored and only got back to it today.  I'm almost finished with the face and I'll probably change the palette, but I wanted to post this and get some feedback before I get too far into it and then won't be able to change anything.. or will be too lazy to change anything

I counted about 14 colors on the face (not counting teal and outline of hair yet)  I'm a paint girl so I have no idea how to find the actual # of colors, besides with the photo there....  I'm not very concerned with number of colors anyway, but I thought I should mention it.   Also, it's not supposed to look exactly like the picture I used it purely for reference (first time for everything, eh?)  I think I said everything, so on with the cc people!

EDITED: any improvements?  Don't c/c the hair yet.. well you can if you want, but I only spent 10 mins on it so far, so there's nothing really to c/c.  ew now the first one looks really clownish haha

Really nice. Paint shop pro on my computer counted 26 colors, but that doesn't seem right. I really can't wait to see this finished

if youre making a portrait then why this?

well, I pixelled a picture of me that looks exactly like the original photo and now I look at both and it's boring - I've got 2 pictures that look exactly the same. This time I wanted to try making it a different size and just slightly different than the original.  And since I wasn't tracing the outline this time, I couldn't get it to look excatly the same anyway.  Keep in mind that this is my second try at pixelling from a photo, so even if I wanted to, I probably wouldn't be able to make her look like herself lol

it may be 26 colors with the palettes on the sides, because I didn't use all those colors. I just picked on and then made new light and dark shades from it.

I know the nose looks different, little big and round isn't it? I tried to cut off some of the pixels around the edge, but it didn't look right.  Though, now that I know that it's very obvious, I'll keep trying.

I'd bring the forehead in a bit.. like make it curve more at the top.. but that's just me.  it'd be fine either way.

aw people you can still give me crits, that's why I posted it here.  It doesn't look very close to the photo (the chin+jaw are totall different, and eyes and lips) but I'm sure there's plenty of other stuff to c/c on my pixelling job, so if you've got c/c  let me get me get my helmet and shoot

from this I cheated a bit on that, and traced the outlines to get the proportions right

black? haha, you know I used to be a blond, but in the past two years or so my hair just darkened  - weird eh?  I made it brown, just because it is brown in real life..  That skirt scares me - look at all those little folds and stuff  not sure I can pull that off quite yet.  thanks though

btw, it's not really finished yet, since I have no idea what to do for the background... c/c that too if you wish

meh I don't like the bricks that much.. I was thinking some kind of random pattern of shapes, of something abstracts in the back, cause if I do the real background, then it'll look weird that half of me is missing lol

I've been watching this topic and it's time I actually gave crits for once.

Okay, because the photo has been taken at an angle some features are noticeably effected by it such as the lips - the top lip looks like a thin line, the eyes - they're sort of semi-circle. In your pixel piece it doesn't look too similar because you haven't used the same perspective as the photo, but instead have used the perspective of a profile shot. It DOES look similar though because you have drawn the hair behind the neck and the eyelash. I think you should re-do the eye to look more like your sisters, and her lips. Her top lip should be thinner because that's the way it is in the photo. Also her eye needs to be more slanted - your pixel eye looks like one that belongs in a profile shot. If you need further explanation as to what I mean then I'll make diagrams. (sometimes I'm misunderstood in what I mean)

The pixel girl looks about ten years older than your sister does. o_0 To eliminate this I think you should give her chin a more rounded look like in the picture, and make her lips a little lighter. The pixel girl looks stunning and gorgeous like a model, but doesn't look like your sister (not saying your sister isn't adorable because she is).

The photo is hard to work with because of the lighting behind and the lack of contrast, but you've done pretty well. The pixel piece looks like a profile shot for a medieval game character or something. :D Great work leel!

uuh crap, seems my host isn't temporarily suspended, it's gone.. anyone know where I can upload BMPs? photobucket now automatically transforms all files to jpg..  guess I should start looking for a new host.  I updated more, changed the lips and chin and other things.. hopefully I can show you all soon if anyone wants to see, I can email it to ya lol

you should use gif's or png's but if you need help I can host it for you for a bit

Alright.. I remembered that I can convert to png online so the file on my computer can stay a bmp

ZOMG NECROPOST!  Ok, it's been many, many months, but i do intend to finish this before i die.  And my sister's birthday is coming up in june, so who knows, maybe I'll finish it... then again, at this rate I'd better save it for next year.

So I worked on it a bit today and I did the hair finally.. after like 5-6 different attempts I think I sort of got it.  I'll still add some loose strands on the right and maybe some to soften the forhead.  So - c/c the hair pls!

I know it doesn't look exactly like the pic, I didnt want it to be exact - the picture is just there to remind me what she looks like.. So tell me what you think!

oh shut up, look at the date will ya! i didnt have green shoes back then... and I didnt want to save as PNG because i didnt want to make the colors darker.  gawd!

@aleiav - thanks! i don't know about a tut on the hair, since this took me a half a year to do haha I dont really have a technique or anything, it's basically just trying whatever i can until it looks semi decent
