Before finding PixelJoint my main place for interaction with other artists was DeviantArt.  Now mock DA if you will but if you sift through all of the crudely drawn, colored pencil anime/manga pics you'll find some really breattaking pieces by some really talented artists.  I am not one of these artists.  That being said, there is a contest on DA to design their next T-shirts; three catagories with one winner in each.  I entered a design under the DA-branded catagory.  The voting, unfortunately, will be by the general populous and not the DA staff meaning it will become a popularity contest and not a judging of the art, IMO.  Anyway, as my entry is an old school, REALLY basic pixel art design I thought I'd mention it here.

Here's the mockup I sent to DA... as I said, it's basic and meant to evoke old school ANSI and early pixel art - just chunky pixels, only four colors, no AA.

I'm not really asking for C&C as it's already turned in but if you think it deserves it, please vote (deviantwear.deviantart.com).  Thanks,

i though about entering that contest, but then i decided to not. mainly because i am aware of the kind of entries that will win, and most already know.

I know, I'm setting myself up for a fall, both because my entry is not "polished" and because I'm not popular.  At all.  I've seen a lot of the entries and they're good art but I wouldn't want them on a shirt, I think people lost sight of the fact that this would be something will actually be walking around in.  Oh well, much like the challenges here, it's the effort that counts.

When I saw the word, "deviantart", I instantly said, "No.", aloud.

That, and it needs work. Sorry, but it's messy around the edges.

I'm glad I didn't have a mouthful of coffee when I read this... LOL.  Now THAT would make a great t-shirt!

I know it's messy but I wanted big, chunky, ANSI-type pixels with minimal colors - VERY basic.

DA - I should have known better, I've seen the semi-finalists and they're pretty... well, not crappy but crappy to put on a t-shirt.  Which is what I thought the point of a t-shirt design contest was.

Oh well, I'm sticking to PJ from now on :D

I know what you were going for, but the skull is asymetrical, and there's some jaggies aroudn the edges. I like retro stuff in concept, but if there were a slightly higher resolution version of this with more detail, I'd buy it without a second thought. A good idea when designing T shirts is to make something that you would buy if you saw it in a store.

It's funny you should mention the symmetry, I was going to fix that but thought it would look too much like I'd cut, pasted, and flipped one side instead of drawing both halves.  I'll clean it up a bit, plop it in the WIP, and see what you think... Thanks.

I did that exact same thing in a recent piece. I cut, pasted, and flipped a few times so the sides would mirror each other, then at the end, I decided I didn't like it, so I painted over the edges to make it asymetrical.

Oh, and here's something slightly more off topic, I duplicated a movieclip to get this to mirror itself easily:
