Hello. Myself and two others are making an action-RPG for the PC, and we are looking for someone who will be able to make some 2D art for the game. We don't have a website or any prior projects, but we are looking for this to be our breakout title.
As far as roles, I am writing and programming the game in Game Maker 7 Pro, and we also have a http://www.joshuaevensen.com - music composer and http://oceansdreams.wordpress.com - environment artist working on the project until completion.
Here's some info about the game:
Name: Alcarys Complex ( http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=71751.0 - here's the link to our old demo topic w/ download )
Engine: Game Maker 7 Pro
Genre: Action RPG
Synopsis: Corvallis Unruh is a 20-year-old database specialist who works at a pharmaceutical company called Instrumental Technologies. He comes home from work one day to find his house completely torn apart, his mother cowering in a corner in the living room, and a hulking, bipedal beast at the center of it all! When the aloof Lieutenant Colonel Angela Leyline steps in to solve things, Corvallis is taken to a new world of flying machines, political intrigue, insurgency and revolution.
Explore six playable characters' backstories through cutscenes and real-time expository banter, enjoy a story decidedly different from most RPGs, and travel through a world that has many secrets to offer.
Note: Stuff in the demo may not necessarily be in the final game.

The scope of the job is that you would be making:
- Sprites that are mostly 48x64 px in dimension
- Six player characters, each with their own distinct look and animations, who have a total of thirteen positions ranging anywhere from three to ten frames in length
- Countless non-player characters running the gamut in demographic (young, old, male, female, etc) as well as special non-player characters that take part in the story. These are mostly characters that would only walk at three frames per direction.
- Spell effects for the skills the player characters and enemies use
- Several types of monsters for these player characters to battle
Prospective applicants must:
- submit a portfolio including highlights of your art style to bladerestored [at] hotmail [dot] com.
- be willing to look for a substantially lower wage than one would normally find for a project like this. It's not absurdly low (please feel free to PM if you want a direct quote), but I'm feeling the purse strings being tightened while we're putting this thing together, and would like someone who can acknowledge that and be flexible so we can push this out in a timely manner. We don't have a producer and I pay for the resources for this game out of my own pocket.
- have a PayPal account to receive payments
- have a firm grasp on character spriting (includes player characters and NPCs)
- have a firm grasp on animation (since this is an action-RPG, the sprite work includes frames for battle sprites, which need to be animated)
- be able to sprite monsters and spell effects as well as characters
- be able to see the project to completion. There has been an issue with this position, and we need someone who is able to commit to completing their part of the resource load. Ideally, we'd like someone who can stay in touch until the game's release, which we hope is sometime by the end of the year.
Pluses include:
- your ability to work without character concept art (something I have not been able to commission). I do have character descriptions written up, though.
- your ability to be flexible. I'm definitely willing to accommodate if you have other pressing matters to attend to, and I ask that you reciprocate that. I'm currently deployed to Iraq, so this affects how fast I'm able to push out drafts and code as well as simple things like even getting on instant messenger and talking, because of the extreme time difference. We do have forums we use for our main line of communication, and that's been working out for us.
Applicants can PM me here, or they can e-mail me at bladerestored [at] hotmail [dot] com, or indicate their interest in this topic. If you need anything, like script samples, that kind of thing can easily be done. Just ask.
Thanks for your time.
