I was playing my beloved guitar when I decided to make a pixel art of it.
Been working for about one and a half hour:

But then I came to think of something... Is this what you call pillow shading?

When your shading is just lines around the lineart instead of showing the actual shape, or something.

Yes, that's pretty close to pillow shading.
Any time you light something head-on its pillow shading. Pillow shading carries a bad/amateur connotation in pixel art and is never used unless its something like a tiny light/lamp/candle, usually seen in platform video games.
The lighting on the metal indicates  you shouldn't use staright head on lighting on this anyways.

Darn..
I more or less finished the image:

I'm happy with the result, even though I use pillow shading.
I will try again later, with a more experimental lighting, but I'm submitting it in its current state for now.

k, but don't be surprised if you get comments about this. Pillow shading is a reason for rejecting art so it will sit in the queue for public voting longer than normal.
Pixelart is way more about technique than artistic expression.

Well, ok.
Another question:
This is not pillow shading?

Nope, 's not. A much better start, now smoothen it out and you'll be near done (:

The guitar looks round. Have a look at internet pix of guitars (Or a real life one) under light and copy.
Here's something I (Very quickly) whipped up: (It's exaggerated)
Mind the fugly shape :D

My guitar is round. That's what I'm trying to achieve.

Dithered the image:

Round as in spherical? 'cos that's how it looks.

Well, not really spherical.

Here it is:

Yes, it's a little dirty at the moment..

I'll mess around with it some more, try to make it look less like a ball.

I think Jeremy is right, the shading at the moment makes it look a bit spherical. Also the lowest point (lowest pixels, bad at guitar anatomy) looks a tad flat.

Went to prsguitars.com to get some inspiration, and found a picture of my guitar with a very interesting lighting:
http://prsguitars.com/standardsatin/index.html
I don't really like copying others, but I copied the lighting:

Yes, they're very similar, but I assure you, The only thing I've copied from the image is the lighting. Them being almost the same size is just a coincidence.

Relax, no one will accuse you of stealing/ripping I think, but remember to link the reference you used for the piece. Now, what you need to do is to smooth it up, and work more on the body horns. Also, I think there are some unnecessary colours... for now it's a waste of resources.

That's looking much better :)
as asukicco said, work on smoothing it out. There's also some banding on the highlights, work on that a bit too.

Lookin' pretty sick, though the shading in the indents around the knobs and switch could be fixed up

Thanks!
I've removed many unnecessary colors now, thanks for reminding me Asukicco. Colorcount was 46, now it's 33.
I have also improved the knobs a little.
