Well, im working on a title screen for my game Kensei Quest. But i'm having a really hard time figuring out how to shade this tree :\. I was thinking about just totally redoing the form of it.
(Still very WIP so lines might be a bit sloppy)

Frankly, the boy's what needs to be looked at. the anatomy is very wonky.

I made a quick doodle which probably isn't the pose or proportions you're going for exactly, but hopefully it'll give you a better idea of what you're working with.

specific issues:
- the legs seem to be dramatically different lengths, and not because of perspective

-neck is very long

-the arms dont seem to have shoulders. they just branch out from where the neck is. show some collar bone and pull the shoulders out away from the body so it doesnt seem to just sprout from the torso.

This stuff can be tough so stick with it :)

Ah, ive always had issues with anatomy :\. I really need to start practicing it more. I shall fix up the character, but what i really need advice on is how to deal with the texturing/shading of the tree :o

Well, there are plenty of types of bark depending on what kind of tree it is (though i couldnt tell you much more xD). I've never pixeled trees before so i cant really help.

Until someone who's more experienced pops their head into the topic, I'd suggest going to the main site and just search the gallery for "tree" and see what comes up for some inspiration and examples.

Tried to fix up the character a bit. As far as examples of a tree's "look" This is a pretty good example (Not the shading, but the lineart)

Pretty please put your images in [img][/img] tags so we don't have to copy/paste a link?

Anyway, it looks like you've still got the anatomy issues Zeratanus pointed out. I know you don't want to hear this, but I think you should consider starting him again from scratch and working from the bone structure up. I think he's going to feel pretty formless otherwise.

I thought the way i shaded it, the light source was from the top right corner :P. Ah well i'll have a go at just remaking the base, I'll start tommorow :)
