This is the first good pixel art I've done and I was wondering what people thought about it (When I first uploaded this I was told I was not aloud gradients so I've tried to revise it.)

Its called "The Golden Escalator to the Cty in the Clouds"

If you have the sun in the background like this, it means the city is http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/thumb/9/94/GalacticCity_sunset.jpg/800px-GalacticCity_sunset.jpg - strongly backlit : http://media.monstersandcritics.com/articles/1284730/article_images/fourscreen002.jpg - contrast, shadows ! (It also means sunset).
The sun is never this yellow, either white in daytime, or yellowish-orange-reddish at sunset.
The city skyline could have a more balanced composition. The shading on the bldgs is weird, they all look rounded. Unless that's what you wanted, bldgs have flat sides and those sides are more or less evenly lit: sharply for those we see at a small angle, dark for the others, they don't get sunlight (if sunset).
Pure greys are boring... the lit sides might take a warm hue, the shaded ones a cold hue.
Same for the cloud.
The escalator is just 2 thin lines, totally unreadable and boring. Try to give it a http://www.uoregon.edu/%7Ehof/w07caught/arch491/escalators/1escalator.jpg - strong perspective , maybe make it much wider and coming directly from the front, to get more depth.
Then, maybe some background, a very low horizon, other clouds, ...

I was not really focusing on realism as this is my more or less first piece of Pixel Art and I could probably not do much detail other than whats there but I appreciate the help thanks.

Why not just try? You don't have to make it highly realist, just a little bit better, one thing at a time... ;)

Why not drop this view and create something like:
Very quick and dirty example (the shading etc. is up to you):

Would be fun to see some more variety on houses - for example, along the lines of http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=48556116&albumId=324969 - Starcastle album covers .
