Okay, so I got a 'revision needed' note on this:
http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/47303.htm

The sprite itself looks absolutely horrendous on a light BG, which is why I didn't make it transparent. I've seen other people do similar things (plain black/white BGs for sprites with outer AA, etc), why wasn't mine accepted? I understand if it's a quality thing, but I'd appreciate if the rejection message told me what was wrong specifically.

Just make it a little bit more interesting...

Actually it does work well on some light bg I think: white (no chance to be accepted either!), cream... What it doesn't work on is the PJ default.
It's actually difficult to find a suitable color, because your piece uses a lot of different hues, but it's not completely impossible. Mine are quick picks, they could be better.

Besides, don't use pure greys, use a hue close to the nearby color (edited).
I also desaturated/shifted the pokeball red, was too clashing imo.

For your next pieces, try to aim for a better palette management, you tend to go all over the place trying not to forget any color! ;)

And, upload your image to this page, since your piece was not accepted, it doesn't show on its gallery page...

I was not the Mod who sent this back. I don't know what exactly was found to be wrong with it. However, the anatomy is off in places. The shoulder, feet and right boob, for example. The pixel you made before this one is much better pixelled, colored and crafted than this is so maybe that's why. I would like this had you colored this using the type of care you used on the last piece you made.

The BG is a problem for me and had I been on duty when it came up I would have asked that you remove it.

My personal take on BGs, PA and the gallery.

The first image has BG that covers the surface area of the piece and is 'useless'.* This I would send back for revision. The second piece I would allow because while seemingly useless there is an area of color containing the piece that is used to set it in place. Yes, just adding a precise area of color around the piece gives it purpose. The third piece is also fine by me because (tho white) its used to offset the AA. This is fine for shadows too or even something like a border justifies the BG (even white ones).

* I am aware that not everyone has the kind of program that can create transparencies or even that for some they are unable to work on fancier programs due to financial or technical reasons.  If I know this I will allow it.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, and nothing personal to the artist, but how is my pixel art " ../pixelart/50307.htm - Yet Another Avatar " worse then http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/7301.htm# - this one ?  How is anyone's art that required revision worse then that one??

why would you ever think that was in any way relevant to this thread?

why did you dig up a thread from last year?

piece in question removed because it was so lazy.
it was still more visually appealing than yours because it was so simplistic that it couldn't go wrong. yours is more ambitious, but bit off a bit more than it could chew.
