Ya, I know the pixel art realm is pretty saturated with pokemon art but I've never taken a whack at it and figured I'd give it a try. idea is an ant pokemon that starts off as [bug] or [bug][flying] type hen evolves into a [bug][fire] type. Just trying to use some of the less used or underrated types.
So there is the first form. Just wondering if people think I've got the pokemon style or not. Crits would be greatly appreciated.
 Here is my process.
2nd form to come soon. He'll have lost his wings, be bigger and meaner and the face on his butt will be more prominent and breath flames. (a fire-ant)

Really looks like a pokémon sprite! Just one thing, it has 16 colors. Pokémon sprites only have 13 (not sure why, since the game boy advanced could handle way more colors), but I dont think thats a big issue.

sweet, that was one of the things I was wondering about, thanks! I'll see if I can drop some colours.
Do you know where I can find the specifics on pokemon sprites? As in colour palette for example?

there's not a set pallette that they use for every pokemon, so you're out of luck in that department. but this looks really nice! looks a lot like a real pokemon sprite.

Gameboy Advance can use any colors. Just limit to any 13. Very nice design.

cool. I just noticed on a sprite sheet that they seemed to repeat the same colours frequently. I also noticed that Ho-oh has 14 colours, at least on this diamond and pearl sprite sheet. http://www.pokemontrash.com/images/1184620195.png - http://www.pokemontrash.com/images/1184620195.png
update: reduced to 13 colours

Diamond and pearl are for the DS, its the GBA that can only use 13 :P
This looks really good, actually looks like it could be in a game.
While there are no set palettes for the pokémon, I think that if you want to use the same colors you could always just use the colors from an existing poké.
I think that http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/72/Spr_3r_224.png - Octillery might have good red/yellow colors for you to use.

ya. Pearl/ds is what I've been aiming for all along. And sampling of colours is what I've been doing so far, though the green I used was pretty hard to find. Only larvitar, tyranitar and a few others have it. 2nd form is on the way, I'll post it within the next day or so.
Also, I have a [fighting][ghost] type I might do.

latest work: final(?) version of the ants 1st form, and then two WIPs for his 2nd evolution. I'm probably going with the design on the far right for his final form. I think I might steal the stumpy wings back and fatten his abdomen up a little.
the females will have longer wings, as in some ant species.

That's beautiful!
Some guy is looking to hire a Poke designer in the jobs section if you're interested.
