Looks good; the black spots / holes for eyes and ears are too similar I think.
The belly outline is unnecessary.
You'll have to choose either black outlines everywhere, or 'selout' (color outlines) everywhere.
And, if it's a sprite for a game, don't AA the outline, it doesn't work with variable backgrounds.

Your light source is inconsistent--left on the white belly, above on the arms/head, right on the legs/torso. It's having the effect of making the white belly look concave, or even a bit like a hole through him...!
@Manu: selout is actually something a bit different, and rather discouraged these days. I think colored outlines we just call colored outlines ;)
EDIT: http://pixel-zone.rpgdx.net/shtml/tut-selout.shtml - Relevant . No matter how it's explained, it boils down to antialiasing to a non-existent dark background. It never really looked good unless the sprite was ALWAYS gonna be on a dark background (never).
EDIT THE SECOND: And yes, I know my avatar uses selout. I was inexperienced and didn't know any better at the time.

Thanks for taking the time to help manupix it's appreciated. I removed the inner black outline and changed the ears so they are sticking out of the top of the pumpkin. Fiddled with the staff a little not sure if it looks good yet.
@Hatch: Thanks i added this last edit before i got to see yours. Here's an edit trying to fix the light source. It mainly is coming from the lantern the panda is holding which is on his left side to the up above his head.
here's edit trying to make the lighting better

Here's another attempt at lighting.

Better!
This light you're attempting is difficult, there are some traps...
Mostly: the highlight tones are inverted: the lighter greenish yellow should be on the side of the light, then the slightly darker orange. Desaturate those highlights! A lot! And the hues look too widely different. Also, the highlight colors should be different on the body and head, even if both are warm (supposing the light itself to be warm). There could be a lighter highlight on the head closest to the candle.
The right leg will receive far less light as it's further away: 3x farther = 9x less light. The left leg can't get any light at all. Maybe just the tip of the foot. Belly: wrong! If it's white, it can't be lighter than white! Darken the belly parts which are not lit, including white. Also, the lit area should be contiguous btw belly and right side.
Lower and left sides of the head should be way darker. Head casts a shadow on left arm, neck, torso.
Other issues: the arms are too straight and too symmetric. Curve them very gently, raise one a little (staff side?), or lower the other, or both.
Maybe you might make the staff vertical. It would help with those jaggies you have no way to remove (when you make the bg transparent, that is). Or have a bg and AA!
@Hatch: thanks for reminding me! I'm permanently banning selout from my vocabulary.

Hey manu thanks so much for the critiques always appreciate it. I tried darkening the lower left corner of the pumpkin. I desaturated the yellow highlights. I changed the shading of the belly to a non inverted style. I fixed the staff so its straight up and down. Changed position of the arms.
Here's the update.
