Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving. Be thankful for what you have, and don't mourn for what you don't. Today is a day of happiness.

Thanks, same to you. I'm always thankful for what I have, but to be honest, I want and need more... in order for me to fix my life, and also achieve my personal goals.

thanksgiving is the day that all americains are happy about the fact that they encountered virtually no resistance before it was too late by the native americain when they commited their genocide. in my humble opinion it is the most disgusting americain tradition.

I dont blame them.Thats how things work in nature and we are not that much different from animals when it comes to that. The strongest and smartest survive and live better. Its in our nature and you cant change that. There will always be wars as long as there is need for more material things.

i have no problems with war and agree with you that they will forever be a part of humanity. however, i find it disgusting to gloat in such a way over a people you have conquered. to me it would be the same as if germany would have made hanukka an important national holliday. it's like dancing on someones grave... very disrespectfull

I think it was more their intention to give thanks for the land, not gloat that they eliminated the natives easily.

I'm thankful for what I ordinarily don't have. Thanksgiving made me ill, and I didn't even eat much.

I agree with what you're saying, and I'll add in: Halloween, Christmas, (insert random country name) Independence Day, the list goes on and on.

For those of you that don't know, Halloween was a sacred 'pagan' holiday until ...*sigh* ...the christians, got a hold of it and made of mockery of the whole thing. -_-

Well history is full of war, from all points of view... deaths everywhere... the burning of the witches, the inquisition, the holocaust in germany, etc etc... too many deaths... if you go by that, you wouldn't even probably celebrate your own birthday lol... so well, to me personally It's my excuse to get out of the house, and have good food in a friend's / family house...

by my logic i wouldn't be celebrating my own birthday if i would have killed/ conquered myself, which i wouldn't. and it is true that i don't celebrate many holidays besides birthdays, but thats what you get if your parents are atheïsts... not many hollidays left.

Now I guess we can't celebrate verteran's day, because people died

i have no problem with people dying, i have no problem with people being killed in honerable combat or honering soldiers that valiently served their country. i have a problem with not respecting those who died on the other side. Acording to historians between fifteen to over a hundred MILLION native americains were slaughtered by the americain colonists. Even the most conservative numbers point to one of the largest genocides in history and instead of a "we owe you a great big fat apology"-day  the americains took one of the hollidays of the people they so brutischly murdered and raped it beyond recognition. I cannot respect that. and i cannot respect a nation that stands by that, especially if it has the audacity to lecture other nations about genocide (which america does).

the americas are the greatest example of genocide there will ever be and most of americains don't spend a second of there 'thanksgivng'-day thinking about what their excistance has cost in the blood of a people.

The big difference here being that we didn't wipe them out for their race, but for their land.

...It may not sound like much, but it's what separates what we did from genocide.

actually, the united nations define genocide as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: 'Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; and forcibly transferring children of the group to another group" which does not mention motive at all AND americain colonists have done all of it to the natives. Even if you say that motive MUST be a qualifier for the term genocide and racism MUST be that motive, the colonists were very racist. why do you think they thought they where entitled to that land, because they where christians and the natives where not? Then why did they not stop massacring them when they converted? Which a lot of them did. Now i'm not saying we europeans didn't have a hand in it, and i hate that we did. But at least we aren't celebrating it...

Well, now you're just opening a whole different book here. Christians always think they're entitled to everything. And it doesn't stop with just American Christians either. XD
