Hi. I'm new to the forum.I've made a few pixel art images before, but not characters. I'm planning to do a flash game (but I don't have enough free-time, so that might take forever).Kinda like a platformer/puzzle, but with a sad/psychological plot (not a dark game though)I can't decide what kind of pixelart to use. Here are some tests:
Style A:
Style B:
Style C:
I know, I'm not good at this... but I'm just trying to learn form the experts in here... :PSo, feel free to suggest, critic, etc.I haven't made a decision about backgrounds, tileset, etc, so that's not a problem (borders, outline, contrast, etc).If you suggest another pixelart style, I would like to hear that too.Another question... can anyone give me some simple tips on how to make an animation? Don't want to steal ideas, just asking. For example, do you use layers (body, arms, legs) or you do the animation with the whole character? Do you make each frame side by side on the canvas, or do you use actual frames? (Cause PS is kinda annoying with the frame stuff)That's it. Thanks!!!!!!

Hi, welcome!
C or A. A is nice, but probably too small for a game. C has more possibilities for moves and stuff. Forget B: outlines at such a small size just don't work. But, I don't know a thing about making games really!
Anims: do you use layers (body, arms, legs) Some do that, but it's really a bad idea on anims of people. When you move a hand, all your body actually moves. I use PS/ ImageReady, the frame/layer capability is really helpful when you have to move inanimate objects around, not that much when each frame is drawn separately (pple). Layers are good to draw each frame on top of the lest one and make easy checks, you can't do that side by side. IR is not very friendly to say the least, but if you have it it's worth getting used to it.
It looks like there are drawing/anim software specific to pixel art, you should find that info somewhere on PJ.

C has the most personality, i think
if i'm making animations, i usually make all the frames side by side, then copy paste into a new document with each frame on a new layer and test how they flow using the animation panel.
i like to keep everything side by side so i can see what ive got at once.

I'm just gonna run in here real quick to remind everyone of one little thing:

Hi! Thanks for the fast feedback! :P
Manupix:
Yeah, you are right about the "B". Borders are like too much at that size. "A" would be good for a game without scrolling, maybe. But I guess I'll go with "C"... my first try :P.
Thanks for the animation tips. Layers are a good idea, to have like some kind of onion-skin with the opacity :P.
You have great images uploaded :P. Love the white pumpkin.
Meagz:
Thanks for the comments :). So, you are like 'old-school' in animations? :P. I'm not skilled enough to do it that way :S...
Hey, when are you going to upload some stuff? :). Love your cute little avatar.
Greenraven:
Sorry about my english... Didn't know there was a difference between those words :P. Thanks, urbandictionary hehehe...
Do you have any critique/feedback for the drawing itself? I think its kinda rigid... too many straight lines... what about the colors, shapes, etc?...

i think the arms are maybe a little bit too short, so he looks kind of... tense, i guess. like when you're real mad and you clench your fists and hold them to your sides so you dont punch anyone?
one or two pixels longer in the arms may help.
edit:
still looks kinda mad :)
what perspective angle were you going for? profile or 3/4?

Hey, thanks! You are totally right. He was an angry little person :P. I guess subconsciously I tend to draw that... see the draft for example :S.

"Why are you so angry?!" :P.
Anyway, some pixels you modified made the difference. Here's another version

It will be a profile view game... but I like to show a little 3/4 of the characters, so that is not a perfect profile.
Talking again about animations... another question. Do you make first the line-art or borders of all the frames, and then you do the coloring of everything? Or do you finish the first frame first (lines, color, highlight, etc) and then move to frame 2? :o.
Thanks for the comments!!
