Thanks,

Almost all challenges last year came from a brainstorm session in Januari 09, but this was the very last one. Maybe it is time to make a new list ;)

Why not make a challenge suggestion thread? I've had a few ideas kicking around

Nobody going for this challenge? After trying different things (a Bioshock-themed park, one of those evil-clown-entrances..), I'll probably go for a Steampunk-Park. Here's a far too early WIP and I have no idea whether I gonna finish it in time...

Just try some traditional shading.  And if you feel the need to dither, use it sparingly.  When overdone it takes away from a piece.

Also pick a lightsource that is different from straight ahead and up. Also reduces the temptation of mirroring.

The lightsource is from the UP,lol.

@dPixel - thx I'll try it :)

It's hard to get a grasp of where the light it coming from.  The arch in the middle looks like it's out in the light (protruding), but the green surrounding it look almost inset compared to the brighter looking sections on either side, which looks as if the light is coming head on.

Think about the shapes you're trying to convey.  Pick a light source and stick with it.  Remember if there was no light, we wouldn't see anything.

The light is coming from the sign,up, I just don't know how to dither these things T~T
And I think the shape is ok :P

If that's the case, then maybe something like this.  Keep in mind I don't know what the full shape you had in mind.  I only edited the top left side...to show where the light might be hitting.

I had started an entry but I'm unsure I'll make it to finish. Plus the idea is kinda... not the most exciting thing, let's say...

Was going to animate it too but I'd be surprised if I even made it to finish it without animation within the deadline :P

You picked yourself a tough one if you're gonna make the letters glow/light up one at the time because that's going to force you to switch lightsource througout the animation?

Wow,how did you draw this sketch? I NEED THIS PROGRAM,lol.

The sketch was drawn in Paint.
This is the direction I was thinking about:
A pity I started so late. I get weary of pixeling nowadays real quick...

Looking good so far Adam, I like the wood texture in the tickitz bootz :)

Further WIP:

Stuff in red = stuff I'll work on next - shadows and writing

Bad market research? Come on, I would so go in this park and have fun there! Go on with what you've got so far, looks really good and kinda foolish.

I'm probably giving up, just didn't have enough time this week..

@Adam: Really reminiscent of fool's long piece series :D

@Bubu: imo Silhouettes work better in sharp light/dark contrast with a little AA for jaggy reduction. The gradual uh... graduation (:P) doesn't look right to me. Perhaps use some more of the green for silhouetting the purple on purple figures too :D

A great background would really set this off...I would think 'really out there'.  I'm seeing a darker background with a weird light creating those  shadows of the people.  It reminds me of close in counters of the 3rd kind.  I'm looking forward to seeing this.  Maybe even a saucer type thing rather than the rocket.  I'm a big fan of your work by the way.

@ Adam - Very artistic looking.  I'm really starting to appreciate this kind of stuff lately.  A very professional illustration.

@Adam - Looks great so far; your ideas are as creative as ever and your pixel skillz are definitely improving...hoping to see your entry finished.

@Bubu - Your entry is turning out great and your characters are very expressive, only thing is that some parts seem a bit over AA'd.

Thanks :)

@Skam, I'm still trying to find a balance with AA :P either I don't AA enough or I go overboard haha! I suppose you refer to the flying saucer (that in my head's a high-tech merry go round with cabins whilst the spheric part has a rotating restaurant - the light parts atop are glass windows)

I've added a silhouette of buildings in the background and I was thinking about adding "abduction lights" behind the gate: a giant cone of light coming from a flying saucer that is only just out of sight...

@dpixel, why thank you :D

I've shopping and cooking and guests to attend to tonight tho so I might not finish this properly in time, I'm afraid.
