I gave my creativity a cesarean section to deliver this piece! The hardest part was actually getting it to a level where I am somewhat satisfied with the result. I will still probably make sporadic adjustments to it.

I tried to depict a scene involving female orcs, however, I wanted to do so without making them green or ugly.

I kept a small palette (not completely optimized), and drew it from scratch. Layers, filters, indexing, and scanning were not used.

Aleiav (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 3/27/2006 15:17
Those are the hottest orcs I've ever seen. :D :P

huh? (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/27/2006 05:58
Robert Crumb would love those legs :D

mccow28 (Level 1 Gangster) @ 3/26/2006 21:36

This is my favourite pixelation on Pixeljoint. I like how the legs look [legs... yes. <_<; ], the background and everything look amazing. And with such a low color count. O_o

This has encouraged me to improve my pixel art abilities. Huzzah.

buloght (Level 6 Centaur) @ 3/26/2006 12:56
Wow, big brother, that is amazing!

Mordalles (Level 1 Hired Gun) @ 3/26/2006 12:18

that totally rules!

miascugh (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 3/26/2006 11:47
All i'll say is that it's very professional, and i'll go as far as to call it flawless in most aspects. the relatively high saturation of hills on the horizon might dampen the atmospheric depth (is that what it's called in english) effect a bit maybe, but no big deal. a big thumbs up for the pallette management and the flora, it's among the best i've ever seen

6/6, faved and buddyfied (some time ago :P)

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 3/26/2006 11:26
Yep, who would have guessed that it would take an Ork to finally slay st0ven's dragon.

Setzer (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 3/26/2006 09:30
Shark: That wouldn't suprise me at all :). No matter how many times I come back to look at this piece it still amazes me. I can't find anything wrong with it, and the detail is astounding. In short, I love it :D. And only 24 colors for such a colorful scene as well. I could go on for days =D

phubans (Level 1 Depressed) @ 3/26/2006 09:13
I see three fine Africanesses (or Africanasses ;) not so much Orcs, though. All in all, this is a masterpiece. Great work!

Shark (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 3/26/2006 06:14
4th most fav'd piece on the site already, i see this going into second, i would also bet a large wad of money this gets onto first page of the hall of fame.

ryumaru (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 3/25/2006 23:28

love you

Agaki (Level 1 Intern) @ 3/25/2006 20:40
Its so glorious I vomit.

Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/25/2006 17:34
 *bows at feet*

Niss (Level 4 Deputy) @ 3/25/2006 07:19
You bastard - this is just too good to be true. I know that such a thing as a fav will not compensate for all the effort but ... anyways.

Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 3/25/2006 05:35
Some of the best stuff on Pixeljoint. Excellent techniques and colour usage. Way to go, Big Brother. 6 and favourite.

iSTVAN (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 3/25/2006 05:27
I love this aswell. I don't think I've told you, BigBrother, but I think you're brilliant. The Orcs are very sexy, in a Robert Crumb sort of way.

Fred (Level 3 Enforcer) @ 3/25/2006 05:15
One of the best image in PJ. I love it.. just love it.. favourite and 6 points... bravo..

DeathByChris (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 3/24/2006 22:46
Holy flirking shnit, that background is awesome the characters are more like Amazon women than Orcs(or Orks). the anatomy on the characters is excellent each one with their unique curves and proportions. 5 dots for your and definitely a trophy.

dm404 (Level 5 Detective) @ 3/24/2006 15:24
Man!  Now that's what I call a work of pixel art!

kettlefish (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/24/2006 15:03
Damn, finally you finished! (tho i do see that u got a bit lazy on that last section you were working on lol) Great job man. I had to make an account here just so I can say this is such an awesome piece! (and you know that's a mad-tastic compliment) I'll rate it as high as i can , but alas i dont know how and well I'm too lazy to learn. =P

big brother (Level 11 Admiral) @ 3/24/2006 14:40

You dislike the butts because of personal preference. Your sex is irrelevant. :)

Stitchy (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 3/24/2006 13:55
Really awesome. /claps
Though I don't really like their butts. ._. Then again, I am a girl.

limenu (Level 4 Killer Klown) @ 3/24/2006 12:32
Nc dood.. Nc.. this.. is.. so.. it's.. GREAT!

ptoing (Level 7 Underboss) @ 3/24/2006 10:33
Best pixelart i have seen in ages. I love everything about it. colours are ace, anatomy is good really nice work throughout. It's nice to see people making fullscreen stuff and not just sprites 5+fav

inkspot (Level 4 Button Man) @ 3/24/2006 09:45

This not true, this is not true! I am just imaging it, there is no such perfect pixelwork, it is just an imagination...

PedroAGontijo (Level 1 White Belt) @ 3/24/2006 09:17
Perfect. Just... perfect, no more words needed.

TheBlackMarket (Level 3 Enforcer) @ 3/24/2006 08:55
This is...magnificent. The trees and grass look so great, and the girls look so realistic...

d-p (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 3/24/2006 07:37
Wow thats high quality stuff. Palette is just great.

Faktablad (Level 6 SWAT) @ 3/24/2006 07:33
It's so invigorating to see a large piece from you, big brother, especially one that retains your awesome coloring and shading style.  The rocks and grass are simply untouchable.  *applause*

big brother (Level 11 Admiral) @ 3/24/2006 05:58

Wow, thanks for so much feedback... The poses are original. I mostly used a mirror for reference, but I also looked at a bunch of photos (tried to visualize them in my poses). The lighting throughout the piece probably doesn't make much sense, especially on the characters.

I started this piece and November, and worked on it intermittently since then (maybe a few hours a week).

I tried to avoid traditional dithering as I find it provides unwanted texture.

In case there's any confusion, the green fern on the right is growing on the rocks there. The pale green bit in the background is another tree (attempted atmoshperic perspective).

As far as the process goes, I took a big brush and blocked in the basic composition, building up the depth. I really wish I would've periodically saved WIPs for this one, so I could have a progress animation. Oh well.

Adarias (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 3/24/2006 05:57

First let me say that this piece is amazing; the coloring style reminds me of the backgrounds in old SNES games.  One tihng id be concerned about is that the preview image really doesnt show the work off, i clicked it out of boredom (and was pleasantly suprised by this very well-done piece)

Ork = monstrous race of Scandinavian origin, something between a werewolf and the undead with horns that stands quite a bit taller than most men.

Orc = Tolkien's reworking of the traditional monster, with the spelling of the name altered to share the same letters as the Oxford Rugby Club, which he considered a mass of ungly, ruinous brutes.

Carnivac (Level 8 Behemoth) @ 3/24/2006 05:32
Beautiful work and easily one of my favorite pieces on this site.  Also love the fact you didn't use much in the way of dithering despite a 'low' color count.  It looks just damn fine.  Would have loved to have seen this as a cutscene picture in an Amiga game back in the day.

lunarknight (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 3/24/2006 04:57
Wow, everything is perfect in this... definately a favourite!

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 3/24/2006 01:10

Once again, just had to pop in and give these a better look....nope, even better looking than before. The Female characters look so real though. I'm actually finding it hard to believe that you drew the women from scratch though. Did you use reference poses, or pics to help out, or was this seriously just straight from your head?

And by the way, I'm not trying start anything, cause this is absolutely stupendous. I just would like to know how this thing was made, seeing as how it completely dominates your past works into an oblivian. It would be nice to know how one gets this far...great job anyhow...

Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) @ 3/24/2006 00:55

spiv (Level 4 Button Man) @ 3/23/2006 23:39
.... ehm .... I haven't words .... one of the best pieces on PixelJoint

BlackEye (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 3/23/2006 23:35
this is perfect from left to the right
i can see no problems and the fact that you only used 24 colors on this image is awesome

Saxamaphone (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 3/23/2006 23:33

Bend over.

Joking, great work. <3
