Cuphead, but reimagined as a Nintendo Game Boy game. Liberties were taken with the amount of sprites available on screen, especially the King Dice mockup.
Apart from the obvious "Babs' Big Break" swipe with the fourth screen, I received a comment on Twitter that the mockup made them think of a hypothetical timeline where the 1930's Cuphead cartoon spawned a 1990's Cuphead reboot with a more 90's artstyle shift (faithful in spirit but more streamlined for TV budgets), and the idea charmed me. |
I don't remember who I heard it from, but the Dragon Quest 3 port on GBC does the same thing for displaying multiple monsters onscreen alongside their individual battle animations, right? It's easy to imagine how much hard work that could require on top of tiling the monster graphics in the first place.
