Did these designs start out in sprite form, or did you draw the designs and then convert them to sprites? I'm just asking out of curiosity. A lot of people take drawn designs and then simplify them down, amplifying the features that distinguish the design (hats, horns, beards, boots, accessories, books etc). If a person starts out spriting the design (which I'm assuming you did here), it's generally easier for them to put down the features they think will be most important and they won't be stuck trying to compress or convey tricky features like spots or scars or sleeve patterns or the like.
