It is a rare opportunity to experience a new genre of music being created just like that.
This one is called Tech-Slam. Pure Slam is a very straightforward genre. It was designed as such, and it is perfect if you want something simple and as heavy as possible. Usually when musicians enjoy creating something like that, it doesn't take much time until they start to spice things up while developing other skills and tastes. There were few other attempts at making something as primitive (in a good sense) as Slam a little bit more sophisticated. Usually, by adding technical solos over it.
Wormhole found a perfect formula on their second album by combining it with Tech-Death, and they crystallised it on their third one. This one. And I believe they are currently the best at this. Just when you hear bass playing a melody under sequences of slam chugs, you know something is different. They can switch between the two opposites without you even noticing; that's how cohesive the mixture they have mastered is. |
