If the sun is behind the hills, shouldn't the hills cast shadows in the water?
I think it's a really nice start and it's certainly a fun style, but there's something about the piece that makes it look like it needs more work. Perhaps the lack of too many details. I'm not really sure.
I'd have to say, also, that with the hills in the background, the further they get away from the viewer, the lighter they should be, not darker. The technique is usually called sfumato, and refers to the smoky or misty effect you see when looking at something far in the distance.
Anyway, good luck with the style you're experimenting with. I like the simpleness of it and how it really gets the idea across.
