Not all of it is volunteered directly. Some places use keylogging and monitor your private conversations.
When I switched personalisation on (which was off), it showed an estimation of my age and my gender, that was all... I imagine I might have volunteered this info to google when I made my G+ account, some eons ago.
I am only seeing a bunch of crap about ads on mine. Some stuff I guess is accurate, but it also lists many things that have nothing to do with me such as child care and investing. They didn't even get my gender right.
Look at it closer. It tells you if you're married, have kids, how much you make, where you live, what religion you worship. That's way too intrusive.
I've been doing small pieces here and there - emotes, custom "mini-logos" like the ones on Scrollboss's website, stuff like that. I'll try to find a decent way of posting them all here at some point. I might even take a stab at redoing the piece y'all used for the top August pics. I just gotta get in gear first, and that's harder than it sounds for me. 😅
Whenever you make a cool icon size 50x50 or under there is always a chance that it will get used some day. Looking forward to see what the kicking leads to, it's been a while!
What the heck, y’all used one of my old pieces as the thumbnail/post image/whatever y'all call it for the top August pics. Man, I need to kick my a— back into gear. 👀💦
Social media is ruining our lives!
Don't believe it? See for yourself!
Break your shackles! Free yourselves!
Hap, there's now a gallery in the description of the original image!
I just wish it looked that little extra bit better. It's definitely an improvement over the original (mainly because of the palette), but there's also still a bunch of shitty-looking things - like this dinosaur chap. The strawberry looks good though.
Oooh, some of my best friends like things that are fun!
Oh I'm sure it will stay a bit longer, we got something fun planned!
Sup ParkerBabyDiaperCompany?
Yeah, the recent challenges have been great. I really enjoyed seeing the huge influx in submissions and all the fantastic entries! Hope it stays that way a bit longer.
Yeah, the spike in submissions (and high quality submissions at that) is pretty surprising. I'm not certain that's due to the themes being better, necessarily (e.g., the dino challenge has a boatload of restrictions I was sure would scare people off).
If anything it's the opening of the PJ Discord server that I think is causing the rise in quality entries. Or at least, that's the one big event that's happened in the past few months coinciding with that rise
It seems like everyone on this site has gotten so good all of a sudden. Every week the challenges are filled with masterpieces.
I like the dinosaurs challenge a lot.
Eggy did, and someone else pressed the 'refresh the frontpage' button ;)
Now it's a full house.
Did someone reduce their filesize?
Ohh, I thought we'd have another full house right now, but one of the dinos is over 25kb....
That's great! And your new piece worked out well too, you've got all the right to feel confident!
Well I've had quite the day so far but honestly I think I'm at a good point with where my art portfolio is.
Dunno why I feel so confedient about this but hey, I'm giving myself a bit of a break on being hard on myself at the very least.
PJ had a flash based image viewer!? I have never heard of that :o, must be before my time! I tried to look in the wayback machine to see if I could find it, but haven't managed yet :(
The Flash-based image viewer had an individual frame viewer built into it.
I don't think PJ ever had this built in skamo, or did I miss something? And the img specs tool is also linked in the features dropdown menu, and with the fixeljoint chrome extension you get a link to it on every gallery page!
Fun fact: PJ used to have that exact feature a decade or so ago
Been thinking about this recently: it would be nice if for animated pixel work, in addition to the built-in zoom, there was some sort of way to freeze the animation and look frame-by-frame. I'm not sure how feasible that is in terms of code though.
Chatterbox always gotta be a bit faster with the news. Fun fact: I first heard about Michael Jackson death here in the Chatterbox!
It's a new thing, so not too surprising you missed it. We'll try and get a discord link in the "community" drop down menu for sure!
I didn't know there was a PixelJoint discord. Is it possible that when advertising the challenges, you can put the link to the discord too? Also - is it possible to have a link to the discord on under the "Forum" or "Community" tab?
*Edit: I can't believe that I missed your post about the PixelJoint Discord a few comments down!!![]()
I think it is the whole forum that slowed down, which affected the challenge thread too.
Right now some wips are being shared on the discord, there are already 2 luigi wips in process and last week there were 5 knights. I do appreciate forums, especially how it keeps a record and that you can always find old threads back, but maybe this particular forum is not of this era anymore.
You are very welcome to join the discord too, Stickman :)
I've noticed that the Challenge Thread hasn't been used very much for a few years now. There used to be lots of wips there and also on the pixelation site (when there used to be a direct link to that forum), where it was fun to see someones evolution of their pixel piece, with the advise and help given. It was interesting watching that persons art chellenges grow through the many reiterations, challenges and the expansion and understanding of the techbniques they were trying to employ.
What happened to the Challenge Thread? Do people post their wips somewhere else?
Hm, I have heard good things about the PixelJoint server :P
I'm forever in a state of Discord server-joining anxiety.
rant:
I have been playing Minesweeper for over 10 years and dreaming of getting the world record, which realistically was never feasible, but I've still been making strides.
But now, out of nowhere, a little 12 year old boy in China has come out of the woodwork and is playing at a level never seen before. He has already broken a world record that stood for 10 years, and it won't be long before every current record is broken.
It is kind of upsetting to me that natural affinity can supersede years of hard work--not to say he hasn't worked hard because of course he has, but he's only 12 years old so he couldn't have spent /that/ long.
My current record is ~10.8 seconds in intermediate, and the world record is 7.04 or something. It's true it's an enormous gulf, but 5 or 6 years ago my best was 18 seconds.
