You've just come back home, but have forgotten your front door key. You can hear sounds coming from inside - somebody or something unexpected is in your house. What can you see through the keyhole?

For this week's challenge, both the preview file and the detail file are part of your submission. For the preview file, you will be using the keyhole template. Think carefully about what happens outside of the keyhole in the full piece! What you see through the keyhole should be the same scene as the main file (could even be a crop), but should not fully reveal what really is going on.

Restriction: You must use the keyhole template for your preview file, and your full piece (no template, normal square canvas) will be the detail file. Both use the PICO-8 palette.

The detail file will be a 100x100 square.

Canvas size: 100x100 (for detail image)
Colours: 16, PICO-8 palette
Transparency: Only for the preview, around the keyhole template.
Animation: Optional.

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

A few weeks ago I organised an informal study to discover how people started out with pixel art.

Did people get into it because of editing Pokemon sprites? Pixel dolls? Which tutorials and softwares were influential to starting pixel artists?

Find the answers to these questions and more in this video summary.

All the data is up for grabs too, the link is in the video description and feel free to do your own analysis. Let me know if you find something interesting!

If you’ve been on PJ for a couple years you’re probably familiar with the works of Nauris Amatnieks, pixel artist extraordinaire; aamatniekss is a staple in the Top Pixel Art roundups.
Just this past August he swept up three trophies, including the #1 for his brilliant Knight of the Blossoms, and he made an impressive showing during Pixelween as well. On top of that, lately he’s been working on the indie title Tiny Thor with a dream team of pixel artists (including the legendary Henk Nieborg) – quite impressive for a 26-year-old from Latvia.
