Nintendo's Original Gameboy used 4 levels of grey only. This challenge is a celebration of the Gameboy. The palette is 'look and feel', some screens are yellower, others realm into ochers and browns. Just work with this green, k.
The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.
Manning Krull's latest project, Toxic Sonic Zombie Massacre, has been released. The game includes 3 playable characters from the Toxic Sonic band, as well as another 3 hidden characters, and plenty more secrets, which you may find the code to upon viewing some of Manning Krull's latest submissons here. Everything is entirely pixelled, and done so nicely.

The following pixel artists produced Pixel Joint's top rated pixel art for March 2009. Many thanks go out to this month's top pixel artists and all the members who took time to rate.
So, the first thing what comes in mind when you hear sprite comic?
Crappy stories made with ripped megaman, sonic and mario sprites? Yes, thats what I said too.
But here is a different one!
Pixel artist Neorice, who has also been making sprites for battle for Wesnoth and is working on the game Frogratto is since the end of november 2008 writing a webcomic!
Three different stories of three different heroes in the same world. Beautiful detailed double pixel sprites, on non pixel art backgrounds. At the moment there are 124 unique pages, and it is really worth the time to read them all!
This week's challenge is to make a recipe. You must not only create the dish in pixelart but must have a written recipe included in your description. The recipe does not need to be real or even edible.
Canvas Size - Max 180 x 180.
Colors: Max 32.
Transparency - Optional.
Animation - No.
Thats right... This year the company that got Great Giana Sisters off the shelves in the 80's, are now making their own version. Oh the sweet irony. Maybe this time the brothers really are history? The game features heavily updated graphics and animation as well as remixes of the classic Chris Hülsbeck masterpieces. Check out the official homepage and Spellbound's (in german) homepage.
Create an image depicting an Easter Island Moai statue using the palette below.
Canvas size - Unrestricted.
Colours - Max 16. use only colours from this palette:
Transparency - No.
Animation - Optional.
So, it's been talked about off and on for a looooong time now and it's about time to commit... we will be rolling out a new design with new features over the next few months. I want to take the next step and focus in on three things without sacrificing too much of what makes PJ a fun place:
1) Getting pixel artists paid (job postings, project ads, contests, selling shit)
2) Giving featured artists more of the spotlight
3) Helping pixel artists grow (ramp up them tutorials)
I can't make guarantees as to how fast this will happen, but I will definitely be setting aside time on a regular basis to get this done.
Many thanks to pixelblink for keeping the ball rolling.
As most of you would know, the same few artists have been dominating the Hall of Fame for a while now and we believe that this is unacceptable. Therefore we will be removing all of the artwork on the first page of the hall of fame within the next few days.
The artists to have their work removed are as follows:
Snake
Jaeden
Riva
Fool
lief
buloght
Morganne
neota
Helm
big brother
ryan-gfx
jalonso
ThereIsNoCure
-DE-
robotriot
Wayuki
Tremulant
Gas13
We apologise deeply to the artists who will have their work removed, we hope you understand our position. This was a very difficult decision for us to make. If you are one of the members listed above and feel as though you want to resubmit your artwork after the 'clean-up', then you may do so. But please do not all resubmit them at once, as it may cause the weekly showcase to get a bit clogged.
-Regards, the PJ administration.
