Pixel by using a computer is cool, but the idea of putting blocks on a raster is an old childgame! For 40 years a small company sells a game, which is called ministeck. Check the company page www.ministeck.de to get an idea of the purest way of pixeling or check the ministeck simulator to ministeck online.
MSN struck a deal with Fox to syndicate the comedy Arrested Development on the MSN portal. It will be interesting to see if more shows eventually end up with a (legit) home on the internet.
A new software called Gizmo Project now allows users to phone another person via (Cellphone/Homephone) right from your computer.
You can call long distance to 60 countries for free!
It's a pretty neat program you can call computer to computer, computer to phone, or phone to computer.
Definitely a must try. Gizmo Project website.
In Australia, internet service providers will be forced to block violent and pornographic material before it reaches home computers if Labor wins the next federal election.
Under the policy, announced by Opposition Leader Kim Beazley, international websites would be banned by the Australian Communications and Media Authority if they contained graphic sexual or violent material, rated R or higher.
The web is a great tool for sharing ideas and freedom of expression. However, efforts to try and control the Internet are growing. Internet repression is reported in countries like China, Vietnam, Tunisia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria. People are persecuted and imprisoned simply for criticising their government, calling for democracy and greater press freedom, or exposing human rights abuses, online.
Over the last few weeks we've made several changes to Pixel Joint and the Pixel Joint Forum...
Gas 13 is putting on a pixel art collaboration called PixelStamps. Basically, you make an 80x96 or 160x96 stamp, read the submission rules and send it to Gas 13.
Pixel Art Rules...
- current theme of collection is "characters",
- all stamps have to be pixelated,
- a fully pixelated or framed stamp; it is up to you,
- no animations,
- *.gif or *.png (8 bit),
- please add your country name to your stamp (could be written in your native language);
- remember, don’t add your stamp price,
- multiple submissions are allowed.
We're updating the forum to version 8 tonight. Functionally it's very much the same -- it's just a newer version which will hopefully perform better. If there are enhancements you'd like to see on the forum now is a good time to let me know while I still have the project fresh in my mind.
There's been zero testing beyond my lazy ass so there might be a few bugs. Hit me up if you run into one and I'll get it fixed.
WWII propaganda is always good for a shock/laugh and this How to Spot a Jap leaflet is no different. It's nice that they talk about the Chinese (C) and Japanese (J) as if they were draws at a carnival sideshow. Two bits a gander.
Yet another close month for top pixel art honors. If you missed any of last month's work you should definitely go to the June 2006 gallery and start rating before July 15th.
As a note for those interested the 7th 72 hour Game Dev Compo is going on July 14th-17th
The brilliant and short-lived comedy Arrested Development received an Emmy nomination (it was nominated all three years and won in 2004) this morning. If there were any question that the execs at FOX don't know jack squat this should end any doubt.
In other Emmy news the still kicking The Office and Steve Carell were both nominated as well. Huzzah! One interesting note about the comedy category this year... only one nominated show had a laugh track (Two and a Half Men). Sleep well, lovers of good comedy: there is hope.
Complete list of 2006 Emmy Nominees can be found here.
For those of you high school students sick of Arthur Miller works and musicals there is hope. Some creative students have put on a full blown production of the LucasArts classic Secret of Monkey Island! Does this remind anyone else of those funny little Max Fischer plays from Rushmore?
Citizens of the United States would be smart to throw idiotic representatives like Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens out of office before they have a chance to destroy Net Neutrality.
I just the other day got, an internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday and I just got it yesterday. Why?
Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the internet commercially.
This moron couldn't find his ass with both hands. Please call or write your representative (especially if you live in Alaska) and let them know that this aggression will not stand.
