"Once you get much past [ 512 x 512 px resolution] you can't tell that it was drawn with a computer. And to me that quality is part of what i want in my drawing, that is what's interesting and exciting to me." - Lauretta Jones, 1984
Instead of featuring a member of the site as we usually do, this interview will spotlight a pioneer of the medium, someone who became a professional pixel artist before anyone knew it could be a career path.
Lauretta Jones began her career as a freelance digital illustrator, before going on to direct the undergraduate and continuing education computer art department at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She then contributed to the field of digital art in new ways as a user interface researcher, finding more intuitive methods for artists to interact with their computers. She currently teaches botanical art at the New York Botanical Garden.
