This is a good choice for a piece (pocket watches are nifty), but I would have thought this a locket except for your title. It does not have many of the distinguishing features of a watch (such as numerals, or hands). Now if this were a hunter-case watch-that is to say, one with a cover-then I would advise you to give it a more visible knob. I suggest adding hands and markers of some sort at at least 4 points on the watch.

As well, the kinks in the length of the chain that is hanging off the table seem to be there for the sake of the highlights. The way I see it, it should hang straight off the edge of the table from the initial bend (though one could allow for a slight curve in case of a bevelled edge).

Real pixel artists do it like they do on the discovery channel.

Well, I would spend more time on it, but I have 4 exams in the next 5 days (university), so I'm thinking it would be more prudent to allocate that time towards studying. And nothing is perfect, there will always be room for improvement. :p

And there is no reference for the image as a whole, though I admit that I did not draw certain elements entirely from memory (those being the master sword, skulltula, and the poe). Here is my progress animation: http://thesalus.googlepages.com/2bitmastersword.gif.

Not strictly related to pixel-art, but some most of the frames are quite detailed and aesthetically pleasing.

Google Chrome actually taps into the T5 GoogleNet connection they've been developing to accommodate their inevitable takeover of the world (both virtual and physical). It has transfer capabilities that breach the impediments that other browsers face due to certain aspects of classical physics-in effect, it allows the information to arrive before you send the query. But due to the fact that receiving information before you query would make your brain explode and the variations in the terminal capabilities (so they can't send it far enough back so that it is instantaneous, though real-time calibration could solve that)... it's really complicated.

But really, it's mostly the custom V8 Javascript rendering engine (based on the Safari Webkit) that makes loading certain subsets of the Internet seem faster. There's also the efficiency of memory usage and such, but I don't know anything about that (not to say that I know much about the Javascript/CSS engines either).

Some tests that might be useful:

Yeah... that was one of the first things I tested when I downloaded it. A real shame. But otherwise Chrome is looking pretty nifty.

I remember seeing this on the old pixelation and being completely enamoured by the whole lightning effect you had going on.

Just came back from watching Wall-E. You should watch out for the end credits and some pixelly fun. The only minor complaint I have is that they mixed pixel levels. :p

Well... skeddles' was rotated 90 degrees, but if I had to venture a guess, I'd say that it violates the rules. But it's a good entry, I can definitely see follow the inspiration. Though the smoke looks a bit jaggedy against the sky (it'd be more of a gradient if anything).

He went  by Preed on Pixelation: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=5539.0

The tree doesn't seem to be composed of three separate chunks of needles/branches stemming from the trunk. Instead, each of them seem to be connected (unnaturally) by that slight outwards curve near the top of each segment which I find somewhat odd. (And the + shaped stars stand out too)

But otherwise, nice work.

It doesn't give the impression that the smoke/explosive debris is rising and dissipating. There should be an overall upwards migration of all the elements instead of a flow along its existing parameters. The thing about FSS' animation is that it continually evolves into its final shape, whereas in yours, each successive permutation is spontaneous and disjointed.

But you've got a nice effect going on in the beginning, and the puffy smoke effect you have is nice, it just doesn't seem to flow logically.

The details on the cover of the book don't seem to match the perspective of the cover itself as it is flipped. They should be mushing together as it happens. And perhaps you should look into slowing the animation down a bit too.

The words on the page also seem to shift around - which is strange. That is... unless they are actually springs and the lighter ractangle is some sort of cleaning apparatus that is trying to scrub the face off the cover of the book.

It doesn't look like it is rotating so much as continually  being reflected across some y-axis - which it is - but I suspect that isn't your ultimate intent. I suggest inserting some frames where the lines that divide the colours are in different places.

This post by baccaman21 might be of interest to you. http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=5201.msg62325#msg62325 Zounds! I can't seem to add links.

The bubles look flat - like punched holes. Here are some nice examples of bubbles.

And the grey pixels aren't doing much for the piece... I'd say remove them or look into some good AA tutorials.

The harsh black outlines on the skin clash with the lack of outlines on the pants. I'd opt to remove them or replace them with a softer maroon/dark-red colour.

Or disregard that if it's an aura of his ire incarnate.

I think a few highlights would do him some good.

There was definitely some inspiration from Adarias, though I can't say that they're up there with his.

And yeah, I tried making them realistic in the beginning, but that sort of got thrown out the window when I tried to work on my detailing and I got caught up in a flight of fantasy.

But thanks for the comments.

Just a little nitpick... the R. came off as an E at first glance. And I think that JRR Tolkien has a nicer ring. I also second Darth's suggestion that you capitalize the L.

And you appear to have 17 colours.

I think the curve of your eggs could do with some AA. Especially the ones on the extreme right and the left. Then it'll be smooth as a baby's ovum. Or at least not as jaggy as it is now.
