There's no need to scale up the artwork, PixelJoint has buttons that allow the user to do that. You should submit this at its original resolution.

This could probably use a preview warning that it's adult content.

The full-size piece looks great, but it looks like you scaled it down for the preview, which has created some blurring effects that are unfortunately not pixel art and will likely keep this from entering the gallery. Instead, you should probably select part of the image to crop into a preview, such that the original pixels are maintained.

Holy crap, your use of colors and shading is awesome. This is the kind of stuff that's made Jinn my favorite artist, and you're knocking it out of the park too.

Groovy nebula patterns in the bg here, and I love the blue-green backlighting on the planet. Solid piece.

It looks like you have quite a few elements here that are not pixel art; the shading on basically every element (except for the player character and the background sky) has a color gradient that looks like it was created by an anti-aliased brush. Unfortunately, this probably won't get into the PixelJoint gallery because of those assets.

Nieva herself looks pretty good. I like the stark shading on her sprite.

Aw, man, do I have to? I'm not sure what I had called them originally, but I think now they'd be, from left to right:

Fuel Man, Holo Woman, Candle Man, Tanker Woman, Stunt Man, Bird Woman, Lumber Man, Zap Woman

Looking good! I like your palette choice. Very nice, symbol-like look to the cat's face.

I love this style, with the thin black outline and the three-color shading. Very cute, well-crafted piece.

This is gorgeous. It's amazing how smooth and detailed this is with only 2 colors.

I love how simple and clean this is. Two-color shading is done really well.

Is that the moon from Ocarina of Time in the top-right?

Gorgeous, gorgeous lights and animation. Great composition, too. All-around fantastic work.

Beautiful use of light. I love how simple and effective the leaf texture is.

This is so psychedelic. I love it, especially that terrifing little hand creeping up the right side.

I've been on-and-off on this site for a long time, and trying to be a little more active now. I assure you my intention was not to "rip...apart" the piece, but it is true that you didn't ask for crit. Sorry about this.

Similar feedback to Black; great looking piece, but is the background supposed to be gray, and is it supposed to be scaled up 2x? There's no need to scale up the native resolution of an image on Pixeljoint, since you can scale up works automatically through the website.

Great stuff! I like the shading on her skirt, as well as the way her little jolt jostles her clothes and hair.

Seeing that the rest in this series have transparent backgrounds, did you mean to upload this with an opaque bg?

Pheno @ 5/30/2020 14:46 commented on Red Spear Redux

Good-looking sprite. You'll probably want to erase the palette in the top left corner, which makes this work seem incomplete.

user
Pheno @ 5/30/2020 14:35 commented on Cosmic Trouble

Wow! This is absolutely enormous, but the level of visual detail definitely justifies it. I think you've done a great job capturing the groovy, gunky aesthetic of the game.

I think there are spots, most noticeably on Psy-Crow's helmet, where the noise dithering is a little too high in contrast to be effective. I think this could easily have been solved with more extensive use of an intermediate tone, like the pink playing intermediate between Peter Puppy's purple skin and the white highlights.

user
Pheno @ 5/30/2020 14:09 commented on City C-2

Beautiful palette and composition.

I think that the sky looks a little messy. It seems like this style of intense, streaking detail could work if there weren't so much contrast between the colors, but in general I don't think you need this much pixeling here.

That said, I like the big, round clouds and the soft, hazy backlighting on the buildings. Very moody picture.

You've done the lighting really well, and I love the 3-layer cell-shading on this piece. Keeps everything simple and appealing, like a cartoon.

From a pixel art standpoint, you've got a lot of what's called banding. What this means is that, when you have several curving lines of pixels, if they all bend in the exact same way, the eye notices that and kind of chunks them together as blocks instead of as the curves they're supposed to be. I think this is most noticeable on the shaded side of her right (our left) thigh. Unfortunately, pixel art with outlines is pretty susceptible to banding.

Luckily, that sort of thing is pretty hard to notice unless you're specifically looking to critique an artwork, like I am. This is good stuff, and, like MasterGrand said, pretty sexy.

Love it! The soft light on the "skin" makes these gooey eyes really stand out.

Area around the mouth looks like it could use a little AA to match the eyes, which are beautifully smooth.

You've done a great job capturing a rocky/bony texture with the rest of the facial features.

user
Pheno @ 5/29/2020 23:56 commented on Fish Eye Paradise

Great job with the fisheye perspective. Bright colors plus subject matter gives this a very dreamy feel.

I think the waves in the water are rendered with too high of a contrast, making the piece look a little noisy toward the bottom. I think you could use a better intermediate color between the darkest teal and the lightest indigo; the current turquoise you're using is so dark it's hardly distinguishable from the indigo anyway.

Still, doesn't detract too much from the overall piece, which is eye candy. Love the faint light gradient around the moon.

Beautiful color harmony. Well-shaped clusters everywhere, especially on the rocks, give this a nice clean feeling.

Crumbly melty goodness. AA is terrific.

I love the thick black shadows on the darker slopes in the back. Makes me think of a well-inked graphic novel.
